Looking at 2020 TUNDRA SR5 and I am not sure where to go into dealer on pricing? Are these trucks very limited now a days or is it business as usual. I am not sure whos court the ball is in for negotiations so I am wondering if I should go in and start with an offer at 8.5% off of the MSRP?

Unless you find a big dealer that had lots of inventory pre virus crap ,selection will be very limited. My local dealer has 3 Tundras they usually have around 20 even their Tacomas are almost gone now .At 7 Tacos and they normally have 30+. Good luck

Buyers have no leverage right now because dealers have no stock. I bought mine at end of August after the new models were coming out. I dont think that buying opportunity will be there this year.

It's tough to price-shop certain cars right now due to low dealer inventory levels. For obvious reasons, dealers reduce discounts on existing inventory when low inventory is forecast in the future.

I lease the majority of my vehicles, and only buy when it is something special I plan on keeping.

Below is a link to Leasehackr.com. (In "full disclosure" I just leased a 2020 Tundra CM Limited from this broker last month.) This broker probably has the best lease prices, on Tundras and Tacomas, right now. I know I couldn't come close to his prices from local dealers here in South Florida. The cost to ship the truck, and the broker's fee, were paid with no problem when I saw the savings I would get.

    https://forum.leasehackr.com/t/augu...14-tacoma-198-nationwide-shipping/106422/3185

At the very least, I hope it gives you some pricing/discount information.

    Good luck!

Bought mine last week. Most dealers mark up their trucks because they know that if you don't buy it the next person will. They're not afraid to let the truck sit in the lot. Look for a dealer that doesn't mark up their vehicles. Right now MSRP minus rebate is a good deal due to inventory. My experience is from Sacramento/Bay Area. Other states with more inventory will probably have a little bit of negotiation. Got my truck at MSRP minus $2000 rebate.

I just looked over my lease paperwork and the Gross Capitalized Cost ( the amount the dealer sold the car to the leasing company) of my Limited 4x4 represented a 12% discount from vehicle MSRP, and that was before the rebates further reduced the price.

    Hope this helps.

It costs you nothing but some time to stop in a dealer and try to negotiate. I used Edmunds to give me an idea of cost involved.

I prefer to check dealer inventories and make offers on line.

I think this is a good way to start. There are a plethora of websites that have the data we need in order to become educated/informed buyers. Our goal is to purchase a given vehicle, at the best possible "net" cost. In some instances, it may pay to involve an auto-broker to work on your behalf and find you the vehicle you want at the price you can live with. I have purchased and leased over 40 vehicles in my lifetime. And I have had plenty of vehicles shipped to me because the local dealers either did not have the vehicle I wanted, or would not meet the price that I thought was fair. Using an auto-broker, and paying their fee, is just one more tool we have to in order to find the vehicle we want, at the pricing and terms we are comfortable with.

How does that work when you buy a vehicle from say another state. Do you wire the money and have a shipper bring you the new vehicle to your door? Id be nervous sending the money if not there...not going to finance this one. thanks

I would suggest you do cashier’s check to dealership that you buy it from. It’s safer. Although there’s a small fees the bank charges you. Shipping costs I write them a check when your truck get to your driveway. Although I would try to negotiate with the salesman if they can split the shipping costs. Doesn’t hurt to ask. This is how I’ve done in the past. Good luck!

If you have a rewards credit card charge the max that the dealer will let you. When i bought my daughters Rav4 I charged $6k on mine. Dealer had max of 5 but they approved 6 to keep me there.

Sounds like a great idea. Can always use points!

I like the cashier check idea.
