So I bought this Tundra recently and have been addressing a few maintenance issue. One of which is a wicked sloppy shifter. So I went to the Google which told me my problem is worn out shifter bushings. So I went to my local Toyota Dealer, Toyota does not sell the bushing needed separately for what ever reason. So I got them from Core Shifters online and swapped them out. That helped tighten it up a bit however I discovered the true issue is with the stick itself. It appears to be two pieces joined together and the top part of the shifter wobbles quite a bit.

Has anyone else experienced this in the manual shift tundras?
Toyota wants 235$ for the piece. I'm considering buying a Hurst short shift kit from Core Shifters instead which I think would be a cool upgrade anyways.

Also, does anyone else love the fact that these trucks came with a six speed manual gear box? I certainly do!

I had similar issues with my 09 Tacoma with a six speed manual trd short throw shifter. I think urd made one that was supposed to be solid shaft.

Is there a set screw where the two join or is it like a roll pin? Or somehow shim where the gap is making it wobble, or dare I say, throw a tack weld on that Girl!

It doesn't appear the URDs short shift kit includes the stick itself...

Yup you're right. Try the Hurst brand one. The only complaint I had about the trd short throw I had was it was difficult to shift into reverse. No big deal if you are used to it but when other people drive the truck they get confused.

How did you resolve this? End up with the Hurst replacement or Toyota?

Toyota’s are a two piece shifter. The rubber is to reduce transmission noise inside the cab.

Adding a solid shifter will add a ton of rattles and unwanted noises inside the cab and translated to your hand.

A short shift kit will “tighten” it up, but Toyota shifters are typically that way.

My Tundra shifter flexes at least an inch to either side. When you remove the shift lever you can really see the issue is in the shift lever. To me it seems excessive. My 97 4Runner shifter is tight like a traditional shifter and feels proper. I had another member pm me that he thinks this is a known issue with the Tundra shifters and a lot of them are like this.

I did not get the Hurst shifter. Replacing the two bushing did help a lot! But not totally. I guess I'm going to live with it at this point.

I would love to hear other manual shift owners chime in on their experiences.

I also have a 6 speed manual transmission and I like it but it’s sloppy compared to my corvette and the reverse is up and on the right and the tundra is on the left! I know that’s not a fair compassion but after reading this blog has anyone come up with a kit or a shifter that is tight and smooth? Thanks Joe

I'd check and see if one of the 3 different size delrin shifter bushings offered by marlin crawler fit.

It would be way more solid than the rubberish OEM one, even when it's new.

I get a little bummed any time these older posts get bumped and I see PHM in one of the previous half dozen replies.
