Thanks to this forum I have been taking very good care of my truck and it looks great and I'm very pleased with everything I've learned. I picked up a load of firewood in the back of my truck a week ago and the loader accidentally dropped one split outside my box and it dinged just above my rear fender. I keep my truck looking as good as I can manage, but I refuse to avoid "truck things" simply to keep it looking good. My paint protection currently is TW hybrid ceramic Polish and Wax with Seal and Shine (which just ran out and I ordered a gallon of BM). I assume that neither of these products protect my paint at all against scratches and scrapes right? Will an old fashioned wax actually protect against scratches? More succinctly, if I go hunting and go through some narrow trail with cedars scrubbing against the sides of my truck what products would give me the best chance at avoiding scratches.

Ppf is the way to go to help protect against pinstripes on the paint. Wax sealers and coatings do not no matter what the manufacturer states (I’ve seen some crazy marketing out there stating things that just are not true) the only way products help is they make the surface smoother which could help with friction but a tree limb dragged down a waxed vehicle will still scratch the surface. Common misconception about ceramic coatings is that they will help with rock chips and such which is not the case they do protect the paint from bird droppings bugs and contamination.

Back 20 years ago when I was a Jeep guy and very into frequent off roading there were companies that offered off road protection "wraps" that you would stick to the hood, sides of the vehicle to stop limbs and such from dragging on the paint. They were self sticking, basically disposable and did what they were meant to do. No idea if those types of products are still being produced.

Ppf is paint protection film or vinyl but normal 3m vehicle wrap is not the same. I think that what he is talking about is actually removable so you put them on then off-road then remove but I’m not absolute on that. If you do have ppf applied the film will get scratched but not the paint behind it unless you get into something that will go threw the film and still make it to the paint.

thanks. I have some jeep buddies I'll ask. that would be handy...who cares if its ugly, just slap on the condom, go use the truck for a couple of weeks, come home and take it off.

Yep sounds pretty perfect. Ppf install on a whole truck in expensive.

I'd just get my doors and sides of the box. if there was a crappy Amazon version I could put on with a heat gun I'd take that. I dont intend to keep it on there, but getting into my hunting camp is pretty gnarly. I guess I have to live with random dings and scratches though. Good to know I've probably got close to as good as it gets for scrathc protection already (very little)

The stuff that I was talking about was self sticking, trim-able, able to be easily removed after the trail ride. I think I first saw it in 4wheeler magazine years ago.

I just looked on Amazon real quick and there is a large selection, most of it is from 3M and it comes in various sizes. to do the whole truck this way would be expensive, but for "sensitive" areas I think its a great solution. Thanks.
