I bought a Kenwood this past week after some hemming and hawing. I will give it to @GravityGear about how an aftermarket unit does like just that.. aftermarket. I suppose if you’re driving clients around or something like that in your truck it might matter. But other than that, there is no, and I mean no, comparison between an aftermarket an oem setup in terms of features. Cleaner signal going to your amp, better sound processor, more features on the headunit, connects directly to a dash cam for viewing in your HU, easily able to see front and rear cameras without having to drill holes for a frac harness or put a switch in your dash, can hook up rcas/hdmi plug so you can use a fire stick and watch football while your buddy drives.. the list goes on and on.

Just retrofitted a 2020 Tundra 8" Navi unit (non-JBL) into my 2019 Tundra Limited (non-JBL). It required making a complete conversion harness as all conenctions (except for GPS, SXM and FM Antenna) are different. Took a bit to get all parts, and wiring pigtails with pins are super expensive ($14 each x 10 pins needed) for the black Navi ECU connector, but all is done and working perfectly. Love the fact that I finally have a larger screen and Apple CarPlay.

Are you telling me I can take a fixed screen unit like the DNX 696S, and mount it in the double din slot angled?

I think the Kenwood with the cd/dvd slot allow you to change the tilt of the display. I purchased one this past week 1) because sometimes it’s nice to listen to my old cds and 2) I want to be able to adjust my screen angle for glare purposes.

Harness: you can now purchase from same seller. we worked together to get the conversion harness sorted out

I suggest making a "best offer" on ebay. you will likely save some coin that way ... i did :)

Did you have to cut or unpin any wires?

Call it what you want, but this Kenwood looks 10 times better than what came stock in my 2019. Resistive, dull and weak..now that's out of high school.

No, of course not. We made a conversion harness. I would never cut into factory wiring. This also allows me to put the 2019 unit back into the vehicle should I need to for any reason for warranty / dealer service.

Did he have a separate listing for the harness on eBay? I don't see anything listed. Or did you message him directly to coordinate the conversion harness?

Contact the seller and ask him to send you a special listing for the harness. You can basically do this yourself with all the information I posted in the other thread about this topic. The only thing I can’t source is the USB harness for the 2020 radio. I found everything else as I listed in the other thread.

If you are interested in selling your old head unit and depending on price, I would possibly be interested. I was letting my son help me install an amp into my 2020, and he crossed some wires and smoked my head unit this morning...

I just finished installing a Kenwood aftermarket into my 2018 and thus, I have a JBL w/nav OEM head unit that I can sell you if pillpusher will not or can not. Just let me know!

Thank You, I very much appreciate that! but my truck is non-JBL, and 2020 is wired differently.

I am trying to replace mine now. Still really sucks. But having a hard time with a plug and play harness to fit. It’s definitely different. Anyone have any updates since this post?

    Any luck?
I feel like if someone wants to make good money I’d pay for a harness conversion. I keep hoping a 2020 tundra will wind up in the junk yard here so I can snag head unit and wires, but so far no go, and any time a tundra shows up it’s taken right away.

For anyone wondering. I successfully installed a 2020 no-nav unit in my 2017 Limited with a conversion harness I ordered from autoharnesshouse.com. All functions as it should. Much better experience having OEM integrated Carplay.

I’m not sure I follow. I would describe the one I previously had as horrible. I now have kept OEM look while gaining a larger display with CarPlay. Works a treat for me

2nd this. I went to their website and don’t see anything under Toyota that says it’s the right one.

I sent them an email (inquiry@autoharnesshouse.com) and got a reply from Brian Doll. I gave him my existing unit details, JVC or non, nav or non, year and trim. Then gave him the same info for the unit I planned to purchase for him to confirm he could make it work. Sounds like the closer you can match to your existing unit, the better. Price was $175 including shipping. This gave me full functionality (except factory nav since I did not purchase a nav unit) including using the existing USB port for Carplay connection. I sourced the head unit on eBay for $300.
