I’ve been looking. Nothing there. Might have to make a few calls around. Would love to get it running because I have ALOT of trees to cut down and my dinky craftsman probably wouldn’t survive

Supposedly some 10-10 starter covers or chain brakes might fit. But I’m not really wanting to spend and find out they dont! Lol

Ok... now this has me wondering if this is what happened to the saw I have... ive found little pieces of aluminum I couldn’t figure out where they were from. I bet the starter Grenada’s just like that one.. would explain why it was put away long ago... but they took the time to drain and the fuel and the carb... hmmm

I haven’t tore into it to much. Apparently it’s points that are no longer available. I’ll dick with it as I can and figure out what it is. I have a feeling it’s the switch

For after market , I’d look at meteor . Word of advice , NEVER use a metal piston stop . Good way to punch a hole through your piston . Pull the plug , get the piston up above the exhaust port opening , and stuff the cylinder with some 1/8th inch cord to keep the piston from moving . And remember righty loosy on the clutch . But, before you trash the original jug , see if a machine shop can put an insert in it .

ou may be able to find what you need here ..https://www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html
    Or, at www.chainsawr.com .
Also, if you give me a list of what you need for it , there’s a sawmill across the road from me . The owner’s dad was a McCulloch dealer . I have done a few favors for him ,and he may let me look through his parts stash for what you need . as far as the 10-10 starter fitting the 81 , I kinda doubt it . They were very different saws . The 10-10 was in the same family withe the 55,555, Pm700 .

Just going from memory , I believe they use a Timesert to restore the threads . Hopefully you’ll have the old girl healthy ,and running soon.
    Edit ...
Check with some saw shops , they may be able to do the insert , or recommend a shop . When you reinstall the clutch and get the saw running ,engage the brake . It’ll help torque the clutch down . Also don’t run it with the clutch cover off until it’s been on a while . Things get pretty interesting if it pops off while at high rpm .
Also , check youtube for the rope piston stop ,and clutch replacement procedures .
    They can be helpful .

Just picked up this McCulloch PM700 Friday . New fuel lines ,clean the fuel , and bar oil tank , get the oil pump working , and she’s a runner . Very low time judging by the rim sprocket and general condition .

I don't know anything about chainsaws, never used one in my life. But this was an enjoyable thread to read through. Thanks :hattip:

Thoughts? It's available on Craigslist. It doesn't run - I may take a stab at trying to get it running, though I value my limbs too much to ever actually use it for cutting. If nothing else - cool thing to have. Model 917.60043

Thanks. Just picked it up. Piston is seized. Little project for me. Not sure if I can get it running but I’ll try & if not no loss - still pretty cool saw.

This was my Stepdad's, after he passed my Mom gave it to me and it's been sitting in my garage for about 6 years. It turns over real easy and all I know is that it wouldnt stay started. After coming across this thread it's encouraged me to get to work on it. Probably start by ordering a carb rebuild kit and go from there. 20200727_174251.jpg

That was made for Sears by a company called Roper . Other than that , I haven’t a clue about it . Cool saw though !
    Edit ... http://acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/b8ae0a0a1b001e8988256bb7005238ad

    I
f you have spark ,and the cylinder ,and piston aren’t roached , you can likely get that beasty working . It generally involves evicting critters from the fuel and oil tanks ,and new fuel lines and carb work . Good luck ,and enjoy !
As to finding parts , type “ Sears 917.60043 chainsaw “ into your search engine . You should get some info on it . Also try chainsawr.com And leans chainsawpartsandrepair.com

I haven't had a chance to take a good look at it yet, but it won't crank. Piston possibly seized. I can move the chain back & forth a little bit - bout an inch or two (haven't tried loosening the bar tensioner to see if that helps). But the flywheel is completely seized - took off the flywheel cover last night & that thing wouldn't budge.
I'll have time to disassemble this weekend/next week. I guess I'll start by taking off muffler & see how the piston looks & go from there.

Pull the muffler to see if the piston is scored . If not , pour some fuel mix , liquid wrench , or pb blaster into the cylinder . Do the same on the carb side ( open the throttle when you do it so that a good amount will get to the reed block.) . Let it sit for a day ,or so . Pour out what you can into a jar so that you can see if it brought any junk with it . Repeat that once ,or twice . Gently move the FW to see if it is helping .

No real muffler. And no spark arrester or any sort of screen to keep crap out:

    4AAC9ACD-D678-45F6-A874-56660D4FFEA0.jpg

    The result of that:

    B66D7349-8342-4DA7-A55D-276868B8BBA4.jpg

I don’t see any scoring, but I can’t get over all the crap in there.

Jumped on the J-Red train last winter when everyone was unloading the old stock. The 2166 with the chamfers ground out and an opened muffler has really surprised me. Well balanced, good weight, highly recommend!

I had some tree work done recently and this beast was brought out. Sounded like a dirt bike.

OnSaws of that Period ,that was about par for the course as far a mufflers . Use some low pressure air to remove tat stuff from the exhaust port . Keep soaking the cylinder . From what little I see , it doesn’t look scored . Try some stuff down the plug hole ,and let it sit for a couple of days .

Local farmer dropped this off to get running . Didn’t have much wear . So it’s a low time saw .
U.S. made 61cc Poulan . Heavy for it’s size . But tough saws with tons of torque . He got it for $10 ,plus the $5 ,I charged him for fuel and vent lines . 2D4945F5-8D4D-4C4F-B126-FABBECEEFC67.jpg5E32E8EF-334B-4A2B-A216-397F81413523.jpg
