    Has anyone shipped a motorcycle?

Any companies to stay away from or a certain company you would recommend?

I might be buying a bike in the next few days.

Can a sport bike fit safely in a crew max?

    Thanks in advance!

no answer on shipping. yes in fitting safely but depending on size of the bike you may need to strap it up angled in to be able to close the gate. check out https://readyramp.com/ for a dual purpose bed extender/moto ramp.

Thought about that but I would be driving all the way through Nevada. Hot as hell right now.

Does anyone think there would be an issue with the rear tire being on the tailgate in the back of my truck without a bed extender? I hate to buy something I'll never use again.

    Measurements - Length 2055 mm / 80.9 in

    Similar to this bike.

no issue man, send it! the bike is less than 400lbs iirc and the only thing that will be on the gate is the rear tire, tailpipe, etc. all the weight is up front with the motor. just strap everything down well so nothing flies out and if you wanted to be even more safe, i'd throw one of those red flags/plastics you can get at home depot on the rear wheel, etc. to make it more clear to drivers behind you, you have a load that extends past your bed.

i had a 94 cbr900rr and absolutely loved that bike. only reason i sold it was because my wife bought me a new 02 r1. that 900 was super fast and comfy for a sport bike. nice pickup.

Haven't bought the bike yet, should know by noon tomorrow. Crossing my fingers.

nice wr250r. i picked up mine in 08 the year the model came out. solid machine. did you know that a lot of the pieces are taken from the r1 second gen design? like stock turn signals and tail light? even the cylinder head is from the r1. pretty cool.

We used to have people bring their bikes into the Ducati shop that I worked at for years with the rear wheel on the tailgate (yes, even the 900+lb Harleys). Some did the diagonal, some didn't. That was shorter hops though from the area, maybe 100-200 miles at the most? If your sneaker isn't hanging off the very end of the tailgate I think you'll be alright. Be brave!! That said, I wont transport anything in my bed aside from my WR-450 because I'm short as shit (5'3") and can't reach to load it by myself. Will trailer if the street bikes need to go anywhere..

Never saw an issue with the transport, it was the loading/unloading that typically turned into a Benny Hill sketch. Watched a guy get a running start to load his almost $20k 1199 Ducati Superbike into his lifted F350 and he apparently wasn't savvy with trig and didn't see that he didn't have the clearance where tailgate meets the ramp.. hit, tipped, bounced off the tailgate, and landed on the ground on it's top.. thousands in damages. That was after we offered help and he got offended and angrily refused because "he knew how to load his fucking motorcycle".

I shipped my 848 from VA to ME when I was getting out of the military with UShip and their customer service was absolute dog shit. The bike arrived with a broken cluster on the left bar (they broke an internal pin). Blamed me, wouldn't fix it. I'm sure every shipper has a horror story though.

I have never had an issue. The rear tire is not far back on the tailgate at all. This bike was 700# and I wasn't worried. Good racheting straps are the key.

    IMG_20180225_163350_2.jpg

I also put a block (not in pic) under the frame in front of the rear tire, on the main bed floor. Just in case the gate did let go the bike would simply drop on the block, and not tip. Good luck!

Thank you sir! Likewise!!! Those are sweet bikes you got there!! :fistbump:

I knew the wr250r is a solid machine, I’ve been wanting one for years, and finally got one.

I didn’t know that, about pieces being from an 2gen R1!! Even the cylinder head?!! That’s so cool!!

I hope so. I'm looking for a clean 1994-1996 900rr. Pretty hard to come by these days. Shitty thing is I could've bought it before the auction for $5,500 plus 7% fee's. Live and learn I guess.

Unfortunately they do and some collectors have deep pockets. They buy and just look at them. I just want something to ride to work and occasionally hit the Teton pass a few times a year.

Found a bike and had it shipped to me. I used Swift Transportation. Paid for the bike last Wednesday, transportation company picked her up in KC Thursday, and was delivered to me the next day. Was $500 for shipping and they were way faster than I anticipated. Bike is heading to a mechanic this Friday for some carb work, fork seal work, and a once over. Should be riding it in a few weeks hopefully. Exhaust should be here today and I found an OEM fairing set minus the upper cowl in excellent condition.

HEY BUDDY, Not know whether you shipped it yet or not.
If not then you can check citizenshipper bike transportation service. I used few times and get good service there
There reviews are also good. I also got there recommendation from some forum.
    https://citizenshipper.com/motorcycle-transportation
If you like there service then you can thanks me.
Other then them you can gave a look to haul bikers.

And i thinks a sport bike can be fitted safely in a crew max.

Remember :- There is a realistic chance of damage with any of the companies. Some are better at fixing than others. The inspection process when the bike is delivered is paramount. If damage is not identified when the bike is received you will struggle to get the damage covered even with the more reputable companies

So:- Tape the box shut very well and I recommend you put some extra tape along the bottom just as added security. Yes a box from your LBS will have staples and glue holding it together but don't trust them I've seen them come apart.
