I hate working in restaurants. Most of them are nasty AF and run by cheapskates.

Why does HVAC work always look like it was done by a bunch of hackers? Trying to fix cob jobs all the time would drive me crazy.

The equipment I was troubleshooting was plugged in to the right side. Handyman jack leg giving customer extra outlet till employees move cords around. Sorry for the YouTube link, can never figure out how to upload videos straight to the post

I run across all sorts of picture worthy screw ups at my job, but the worse part is the hours spent on conference calls.

I work for a large freight company. You never know what kind of crap your gonna have to deal with. But you can always count on it happening at the worst time! Luckily I no longer participate in dock operations

7,000lb electrical panel fell over. The pallet collapsed from the weight
    780D572C-8D0B-43C4-9AEA-FD677B07EED0.jpg

Idiot backed a forklift into our residential truck on the 3rd day we had it. Took a tow truck positioned on the other side of the dock to winch it out. Freight handler was terminated

Side of the box busted out on this crate of brass sprinkler fittings. Couldn’t open the door. First trailer of the day on a Monday morning about 2am literally thousands of fittings everywhere

Hard to tell from the picture but these are large rod iron fence panels. Band broke on one of the stacks and the spikes were poking through the trailer walls. Freight handler terminated

The endless amount of walking they never show in the movies or video games. Everyone thinks you just appear on the objective every time via helo. Guess what? You don’t.

When I did line work, we would have vaults covered up in dog crap or yard waste. Every time I would contact the home owner to clean it up or we would call a service out to clean it up before working at their cost.

I would not perform work in that mess...period.

True. I’m just being sarcastic. I know it’s part of the job. The other pictures actually give me nightmares compared to stumbling around in the dark. Like the clean up pictures or dealing with crappy forklift operators. That’s real.

@TomC843 i used to do the same kinda stuff, worked at McDonald’s for a couple of years, but not just do side work for them. I’m so glad I don’t mess around with the fryers or griddles anymore.

surprisingly this wasn’t at a subway, but as you know that’s how most of them are.

Thats what the insides of ice machines look like anyway, especially anywhere that makes bread, so about 10-15 years ago they started putting them directly on top of the Coke
fountains where no one can see them anymore. Worst is the gas stations.
    ...
    Ice-o-matic?

Ice o matic for sure! I used to do subways, and of corse they would only call when it quit working, which meant it was bad!!! This one was from a rental we did, kept all the empty beer bottles right next to it.
Now I work at a “campus” where we have over 25 manitowocs!!! Just switched all the bins to dispensers this summer due to Rona concerns, bins were a terrible idea to begin with for where the machines are.

Difference is we are charging the customer $100+ an hour to be there and they can call someone else. The very large chain restaurant where that pic was taken probably spends $2500+ a week at our branch alone on avg and we are in 6 much larger cities than Charleston (smallest branch by far), I put on a show about how dirty the shit hole is, could cost $1000's and $1000's.

Man I always wanted to work a college campus and large factory like the Boeing plant here but have never seen one that paid even close to field tech. I get Indeed job updates and The Citadel is looking for an experienced HVAC/R tech and the top range salary is 55% what I made last year, and I know I make $10+ an hour over what any factory maintenance job I ever see posted.

Oh for sure, the pay is absolute crap!!!! But the benefits and the lower stress level is more than worth it!
I had to travel a lot for my old job because of..........well lots of things, I was tired of the 14-16 hour days and finally make it home just to get called out. I drove a very dangerous strip of I10 every morning and would pray to ALA that I made it home every night.
With kids and the benefits it was a no brainer, but I had to search for a year and a half. The pay cut was a bit to get used to, but I feel like I’m buying less stupid shit, and making it count where it needs too. Almost all the trades guys I work with do side jobs, so money is still there if you want it.
I mainly do low temp side jobs, AC every now and then for a family member or friend, but the ice machines and fridges are my jam

Damn, guess I won't bitch about my office job no more.

In college I delivered/installed appliances for a local store. Got sent out to check on a VCR malfunction. Customer said a tape was stuck, it wouldn't eject, RW, FF, Play, nothing. Could we come look at it? It was summer and I could smell the house as soon as I opened the truck door. :puke:Went in and noticed the display wasn't working properly, couldn't read all the numbers. Then I realized the display was fine, it was just partially covered by the three or four roaches that were in the panel staring out at me.

I unhooked it for her and suggested she take it to a local electronics shop we did business with and left. On the way back, I stopped by that store and told him if so and so brings in a VCR, immediately take it outside and soak it in a vat of raid. Talked to him a week later and he thanked me for the warning. She brought it in. The roaches had got squished between the tape and the heads, becoming a sticky gross mess. They had also nested in the VCR and chewed all the wiring. He was glad he took it outside and fumigated it, as well as opening it up outside to not have them all over his shop. It was beyond repair.

Anyway, when I got back to the store from the initial run, our appliance service technician asked if I'd been to so and so's house, and what did I think (he saw the "call" on our schedule)? He laughed, and told me of a trip he made when her refrigerator quit working. :puke:He made her empty it and clean it completely with bleach before he'd come back. She did, but the mechanicals she couldn't access to clean were just as bad if not worse than that VCR. :puke:

I don't envy you guys that work on HVAC, furnaces, plumbing, electrical, appliances, etc... You're all underpaid and under appreciated as far as I'm concerned. Although, in my stint doing the appliance delivery/install, I found it interesting how people live. My folks didn't have a lot when I was growing up, but we always had what we needed and took care of what we had. Being able to see both the really nice places as well as the really bad - both extremes from what I'd known growing up, was actually pretty cool. It exposed me to two totally different worlds I didn't really know existed before then.

That reminds me of when I was a roofer in arizona. Once in a while we would run accross a leaky roof, and it was normally around the ac, or swamp cooler. We found a good way to stop the leaks. We sprayed cool white paint over the whole unit. Looking back I know it was micky mouse to do it that way, but it worked, and it s how the boss wanted it. Ever work on an ac, then be told the roof leaks?

I had the same thing happen to me on a PC, customer brought it in, I took the ticket and put it in the floor in the shop, noticed almost immediately roaches crawling out of it. I took it and put it on the sidewalk outside my shop and call the costumer to come pick it up. I refuse service and told her exactly why. She didn't give me any back talk, came in the next AM and the PC was gone, don't know if she came and got it or if the roaches picked it up and carried it to a secluded place for further nesting. Either way I was fine with it.

Me too. Captain/Medic. If we posted pics of the worst parts of our jobs It would keep people from sleeping. Been at this 16 years and have seen some shit that people shouldn’t see. Also worked in the ER so if it involves a human being destroyed or mutilated, I've seen it. These pics of moldy areas are a lot better than dismembered children.
