A little of this and a little of that.
I'm bone stock and I'm going on a lot of trails. You don't need to be lifted to go on them, some of them you probably will but there are other trails that don't require it. Some people went last year in a 2-wheel drive on a some of the trails and from what I hear didn't do too bad.

Sorry I've been away from this thread guys! The good news is I've been busy gathering more sponsors and stuff. :D

Yeah, we camp in one spot the whole time like a base camp, and then go on adventures during the day, returning to base camp at night for beer, shenanigans and stories.

It's not really that limited. The first year we went, we backed ourselves into a corner, but the next year we realized how much more space we have. I'd guess there's room for 20 or so full size TTs if they just backed into the field off the dirt road. Jason Demello drove his huge RV into camp last year.

No need for crazy mods at all! We have sooooooooo many different roads and routes, you could have fun for days in a stock 2wd. Last year we had a guy with 2wd on race tires with a super charger. he had plenty of fun.:D

Besides Oak Creek, we will also be really close to Stoneman Lake. There are also about 20 smaller lakes in the nearby area. Lake Mary comes to mind as a good spot.

You can get by with a stock truck for sure! Just be sure you have the camping gear needed to support yourself for a few days - there are no services where we camp. No water, toilets, lights, tennis courts, butlers or bidets - just trees, dirt and beautiful scenery.

If anyone wants to, there are hotels in Sedona and Flagstaff. Some of our less rugged vendors sleep indoors at night...

Stock height TRD will crush pretty much every trail we take on. Just be prepared for some Arizona Pin Striping if you decide to do Broken Arrow and maybe a couple of the other Sedona trails. Nothing that won't buff right out though.

You'll be just fine with all the trails here. There are a couple good and challenging ones, but nothing that you NEED aftermarket suspension for - it just helps you go faster, and on most of these trails, a slower pace is nicer because the scenery is absolutely amazeballs.

I'm sitting here just dying to be able to go but my time off wouldn't work this year. :(
I'll have to make a mental note for the future and book vacation accordingly. Would be coming down from Ontario, Canada :canada:

Man, the more you guys talk about this the more I really can't wait to go. I'll definitely be there! With a TT ready for the good life. Sounds like a blast and the service project, what a great idea!

Kevin, do we need to bring any tools like shovels or rakes for the service project??

We will be attending Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'm not sure if we will be bringing a trailer due to the BLM/Forest Service of no on-site sales. Although, if anyone wants to purchase anything before hand, I am more than happy to bring anything out.

Whats the "Fire" situation. Camp Fires allowed?

Aslo, will the group have it's own VHF Radio frequency? If so, what is it so I can have that programmed in.

There has not been a fire restriction the last two years, and don't anticipate one this year.

I think comms will be decided once we get some groups together. We usually split into smaller groups to keep trail congestion and impacts low. We might pick a freq for the group overall though and have a few people monitor it.

This is 100% family and dog friendly! Bring them all!

    Bingo!

If there is enough demand on the forums, I could possible bring out some handheld radios for sale as well. They are programmable to the frequency on the spot. They are priced pretty well for what they are as well. I have about 7 on the shelf right now, but with enough demand/people buying them up front I can see what I need to bring out as well. $45. These also come pre-programmed with all the race channels.

5 watt, but you can change the strengths as well from 1w/3w/5w. From my understanding, handheld radios aren't supposed to surpass 5-6 watts. I think I read something to do with RF levels being unsafe which will damage body tissue. Somebody told me to grab the top of the antenna while its transmitting and you will find out why they don't go over 5 watts. Well, I'd rather not press my luck so I haven't experimented in doing that. haha.

OK, it's official! We just got out permit from the Forest Service and have locked in our location.

    Same as last year!

    WRITTEN DIRECTIONS:

Take I17 to Exit 306 Stoneman Lake Rd (Forest Road 213) and head East (the only direction the road actually goes)
Stay on Stoneman Lake road until it becomes a dirt road and you come to a T intersection
Turn right at the T and drive on that dirt road for about a mile and a half to the first right turn before the building on the right
Stay on this road for about a mile to the campsite.
I'll have banners or lights or something to clearly mark it

I bet you could damn near sell all of those, especially with the race freqs. Are they Ham plus race radio? I can never figure out if the race freqs are specific to race radios, or just a certain freq band in Ham...

Please post the Group Frequency when it's all figured out. That way those that are caravanning out together can all be on the same channel as we roll in.

I'm not too familiar with Ham radios but the handhelds are VHF/UHF dual band.

Just started getting into chart plotting/mapping routes. I will be posting some routes in here periodically (Sedona trip oriented) as I make them. They can be opened in both BaseCamp and Google Earth, google earth will convert the file automatically. As well, they can be opened in other programs (Insight Planner) but I believe you will need to do a file conversion to open them.

1st route is Boynton Pass, west of Sedona

One really neat thing as well,
When you open the way points up in Google Earth, you will be able to view pictures that other people that have driven that area have posted - so you get an idea of what the surrounding is prior to heading out.

You can also find some already created routes for Garmin GPS,

    Download some waypoints here;
