Two years driving a 2018 Tacoma TRD OR was enough. Could not stand driving it anymore... for all the reasons everyone else complains about them.

    Traded it today on a 2020 Crewmax SR5 4X4.
Absolutely loving the 5.7 power and 38 gallon tank.

    Let the upgrades begin !!!
Darker tint, lift, wheels and tires...

Congratulations and welcome from GA. I traded in an ‘18 Taco as well. Best decision I ever made.

Just visit the Tacoma forum. The Taco is by far the worst new vehicle ive ever owned. Drivability is terrible. Erratic shifting, no low end power at all. Like driving down the highway with a parachute behind you.

Yep, the Tundra feels perfectly dialed in. Plenty of power, great response, perfect clean shifts, holds gears proportionate to road speed, etc...
The Tacoma is a clusterfuck... as im sure you are well aware. Im SO glad to be rid of that thing.

Yeah, the 3rd gen Taco has the torque band of a dirt bike. The one I had was a beautiful truck but driving it was very frustrating to say the least.

Depends on your point of view. The Taco may be reliable, but it sucks to drive. Maybe it’s ok for you but I hated it. That’s why I traded it.

I had one for close to 100k. It was good except for towing. Needed more, hence the Tundra.

If you had the Taco with the 4.0... those were solid. My wife drives a 2016 4runner with the 4.0 and it drives great.
The 2016+ Tacoma has a 3.5 passenger car engine in it. The engine is very high-strung and makes NO power at all under 3500rpm. To make things worse, the gearing in the trans, with the 3.90 rear gears is better suited for a diesel engine. 6th gear in the Tacoma was completely useless unless you were running on the salt flats and had a bigger engine in front of it. I drove around in S4 all the time. I had a pedal commander and ECT always-on module in the truck just to make it somewhat tolerable... but I still hated driving it. I think there was a hole worn thru the carpet under the gas pedal from stroking it to the floor so often.

Anyone that says the 2016 Tacoma is "OK" or is "right"... is completely clueless or in denial. The '16+ Taco is an absolute mess... and all you have to do is drive a new Tundra to see how bad the Tacoma really is.

Went from a 2015 TRD Sport Taco to my 2018 TRD OR Tundra. Just a better truck in every single way. Two of my pilot friends have the third-gen Tacos and absolutely hate them for the same reasons you stated. Gutless. And almost the same price I paid for my full size which blows my damned mind.

    Also, welcome from Maine:rolleyes:

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone !

I can see why folks on this forum seem to be in such good spirits... (great truck = no complainers)

I drove the Tundra 24 miles to work this morning and all I can say is... "WOW".

Such an awesome driving truck. Everything feels "right"... and is nothing like the frustrating experience I had every time I drove the Tacoma.
God what a horrible mess those trucks are.
Even my wife's '16 4runner is night and day difference (better) than the Tacoma.

I think I will be driving this Tundra for awhile. :headbang:
