A thread about stupid injuries youve received while wrenching and the tales behind them..

Ive had the busted knuckles and such but punching myself in the face a couple of days ago while dismantling my tracracs is my new favorite..

I actually punched myself in the face too, except it was on my 4Runner. I was greasing my universal joints and could not get the connection off. Got under it for leverage, popped off, wham!

I have the ability to get stuff in my eyes all the time, even while wearing glasses. Crawl under the truck the only piece of dirt under there will end up in my eye. Wash the truck the soap splash back and end up in my eye. It never happens elsewhere, only on this truck. LOL.

Has your husband lost count of how many times he’s been questioned about your eye yet? I only ask because my wife broke her arm a few years back. I got tired of that joke pretty quickly.

Yeah the shits getting pretty old already. Had the same stupid wife-beater comments the two months I was in a sling after my shoulder surgery. Especially in todays witch-hunting assed culture, ive been keeping the public outings to a minimum until it heals. o_O

I've punched myself in the eye on both my old 4Runner (installing the hitch) and my Tundra (installing the steps). Not sure if I should count that as a badge of honor or not. LOL

And I'm with you on the jokes. I mean, everytime I've had a procedure or surgery done, I joke that "If I could just stop making all these dumb dad jokes, my wife would stop smacking me for it....", but EVERYONE I make the joke to knows my wife and knows she's a total sweetheart. (She's a nurse.) But there's no way in HELL I'd make the same jokes when she has a procedure or something, given today's culture.

Yeah it sucks. It is going to be the first assumption when you go anywhere in public. Don’t get me started about when my wife actually did give me a black eye a few years ago.

I'm always surprised when, after spending x amount of time leaning over the radiator/support doing whatever, how when I take my shirt off to bathe and look in the mirror I have red marks all over that make it look like I've recently been trampled by a hockey team.

So far nothing too serious except every single piece of dirt within 5 miles seems to stick to me any time I'm doing any type of work.

Plenty of stories, but this one was the most miserable.

I tripped and fell on the way back to the car with tools in hand. Put my hand out to catch myself and my thumb caught the edge of the wheel that was laying on the ground. Hyper-extended it backwards, and tore damn near every piece of muscle and tendon in my palm. Fun times, especially since I was driving a five speed at the time and it was my right hand.

PPE! Safety glasses all the time. If it keeps dirt out of my eyes that is enough.

Didn't get a picture but I did hit myself in the glasses and the nose bridge gave me a pretty good cut. Was bleeding well but finished up. Bloody mess, looked like I got into a fight and the truck won.

good thread, my best one to date, I was using a big ass hammer to loosen something up (don't recall what), saw it heading for my thumb so I reacted and jerked it back and smacked myself in the mouth, split my lip and broke off a tooth! In hindsight, a smashed thumb would have been a LOT less expensive ;)

No black eyes yet, I’ve had a wrench slip off trying to break a over-torqued bolt and ended up with a bloody nose though.

Closest call I’ve witnessed was helping my cousin cut tailpipes off his first gen. He was laying under the truck using a cutoff disc in an angle grinder. It cut nearly through the pipe but the grinder kicked back and out off his hands. It was the older style with slide switch not the trigger. Landed on his stomach, his shirt ended up wrapping up in the grinder, stalled it and tripped the breaker. I rushed under, expecting him to be cut wide open but barely had one scratch on his chest. Lucky day for him.

The only time I've ever punched myself in the face was trying to get the last bit of gogurt out of the tube.

I've only ever had minor cuts from working on the truck, but I haven't tackled anything major yet.. The last cut I got wasn't even from the truck, it was from opening my stupid toolbox after putting my headlights in.
