22 years and counting in the USAF (last 15 Reserves) flying C-130s. Too many places to list so I'll just recant a few stops of note.

1998 Cancun, Mexico after diverting with a major fuel leak returning from Panama. Aircraft Commander is on the phone with TACC (mother) while we knock back a few beers in the FBO bar. "What did they say? After he said, 'Don't call me, I'll call you' he hung up on me when I told him where we were mission and on the depositioning leg back to Pope AFB. We found an all inclusive resort that would take us for our max lodging per diem. The USAF has the reputation, so we rep it every chance we get!

2005 To the young Qatari police officer in a Doha police station, "Dude! BATHROOM!?!" There will be no further comment except to say there was not an international incident known outside of that station's walls.

1999 San Salvador, El Salvadore while finally finding a quiet baño, albeit with no doors on the stalls. A toilet was a treasure for C-130E crew members who only had a honey bucket in the back of that model. After the first touchdown the door flew open to shift change. I think every member of the El Salvadoran AF stopped by to check me out.

2004 - 2018 laying in the shade of the wing or tail on just about all of the USFS Air Tanker bases in the Western US that could handle a C-130 MAFFS bird.

2006 summertime at about 0300L in Djibouti convinced that no human could survive that place at 1500L...

2007 Wake Island is just such a cool place. No other human standing on soil for like another 600nm. Deep respect for the US Marines and contractors who defended that place from the Japanese Navy in 1941.

Whoa! What's an Army guy doing on Johnston Atoll? I remember as a kid flying back from Guam after the Korean War. Had to stop there for fuel in that DC-6. The little island looked about the size of a soda cracker as we circled it before landing.

Didn't think there was anything there anymore. Or was this many moons ago?

I was there from 2000-2001 the island closed a year or two after. We were destroying chemical weapons from WWII. The ammunitions were transported over from Japan. As a MP we provided security for the ammunitions and disposal facility.

A while back I was talking to this guy, and he mentioned he used to be a Marine sniper. I asked him where he was trained at and he said, Fort Pendleton...

As for me I served all state side posts. HQMC-Arlington Virginia, MWTC Pickle Meadows-Bridgeport California.

I'm not up on my Marine data, and I'm Canuckistani to boot but I thought Marine snipers trained at Quantico. Infantry school is Pendleton is it not?

You re probably right, but i didn t think that deep into it. Army has forts. Marines have camps. There may be a few exceptions, but MWTC is an extension of Camp Pendleton, so when I heard him call Pendleton a fort I sort of cringed. I said wow. That must have been something, and went on my way.

I really don't get the posers. If you're gonna fake it, at least get the the facts right.

My friends who serve in the Canadian Forces are always catching the fakers and then ridicule them mercilessly. Best one they told me about happened in a bar frequented by military personnel. Some guy rolled in talking all loud about how he was the biggest baddest mofo around, how he was JTF2 (our version of the SEALs) and trying to woo all the ladies. Some guy in a tan beret told him to sit down, shut up and quite lying. Naturally, our hero took offence and kept on digging that hole until someone asked him what color beret they get when pass army special operation selection. "Black!" came the proud answer. Nope. It's tan. Black is Armoured. Naturally the bluster began...until he realized he was surrounded by almost a dozen strapping chaps all wearing tan berets...
