I need to have my Power steering rack replaced one shop gave my an estimate of $900 parts and labor for an aftermarket one.

I can order a genuine Toyota for about $900 is it worth getting an OEM or should i just go with the aftermarket?

Also need lower and upper ball joint are aftermarket ones good or should i go for OEM?

A few people have gone with aftermarket racks from eBay. They have a lifetime warranty. Have you considered doing it yourself? They say it's not a horrible job.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/153283894390

As for lower ball joints, you must stick with OEM. Toyota Of Cool Springs has great prices and they offer a forum discount on shipping. You can find info here.

Oem rack is brand new never installed. Most aftermarkets will be reman. Both will work. The Toyota may last longer but you practically have no warranty. Ultimately it’s your choice with what to do for the rack.
Oem only on the ball joints as state above (known issues with aftermarkets and worn oems ending up with wheels destroying fenders)

The rack is easy on these trucks. But you will need an alignment afterwards. And the lower ball joints are super easy. Just 4 bolts (USE A TORQUE WRENCH) and the castle nut

Another option for our trucks is a rebuilt factory rack from the Rack Doctor. Between the two, I might go with the first one I linked above from Detroit Axle.

@Casper421 , didn't you go with this one(ebay, Detroit Axle)? How's yours holding up?

Yeah, I regret going with Rack Doctor. Splines and hard lines were beat and bent to shit when it arrived. Tried contacting RD for a month with absolutely no response. The seals are already leaking after 6 months, stay away from Rack Doctor! Plus the rack didn’t look anything like my oem rack. Looks cheap and shouldn’t have installed it but it’s all I had. Gonna find a local shop to rebuild my stock rack.

Well damn. That's disappointing. I'm glad I asked. Another member here bought a Rack Doctor unit for his 2nd gen and it failed after ~12 months. I chalked it up to bad luck.

The only non factory racks I’ve had any luck with were ones from Napa

I might try a cheap one and if it fails i'll go with OE Are there better bushings than the rubber one?

I used an eBay Detroit Axle Rack without issues. Also when you use rack bushings get the hard black rubber ones

the red poly squishy ones flex too much and cause the steering not to be as tight

Energy suspension makes a kit for bushings
