It shouldn't be much of a pain to file a dispute with your CC. Probably take 10 minutes or less. Would be worth it to me if it cost me several hundred dollars but to each their own. Good luck!

So, how exactly did the shop end up getting them off? Just curious......

Also, I'd consider running it by a lawyer. Often times companies will change their tune when they get an official letter from an attorney.

True, but that letter will probably cost as much as a new set of wheels. I think OP is right to just move on and write it off as a bad experience. Unfortunately crap happens.

Exactly, my wife and I talked about it, and when it’s all said and done getting a lawyer may not help the financial situation at all by the time I pay their fees, and it would just cause more of a headache...so I’ll just share my experience, that will cost them more in the long run, word of mouth is huge, especially in situations like this...I’m fully aware many people who see this may still do business with this company, but even if a couple decide to stay away because of this, they hurt themselves more than if they would have just helped me out and owned up to this...live and learn, I won’t hold a grudge, but like I mentioned above, I will definitely share what happened so maybe it can save someone else a headache in the future

Now would be a good time to replace with new longer studs so you don’t have to use ET lugs.

    FWIW.

I've been emailing custom offset about fitment of a set of wheels I'm wanting. I'm wanting a 18x9 with a zero offset, so I sent a email about the fitment on my truck. I have stock suspension and stock 275/65r18 Bfg ko2's, and will be keeping the suspension and tire size the same. They told me, I will need at least 3"-4" lift for those wheels to fit. Now, I'm not a dumbass, they may not fit stock suspension, but I know damn good and well, I don't need a 3-4" lift for those to fit with stock size tires. Moral of the story, after my emails with them and now this story, it's obvious they ain't got a fucking clue what they are doing.

I never trust a rim with more holes than I have studs......or a shop that would sell them to me, just my opinion.

I’ll find out exactly what Kost did tomorrow and let everyone know, just don’t want to give the wrong information...I know they said they were going to have to heat them up, I’m just not sure how exactly they did it, and what they did from there...I honestly didn’t even think to ask, I was just so relieved when they called me and said they got them off without major damage...haha...I’ll keep you guys posted!

If they can heat up the base to soften it up, then drive it through with a air chisel. Been there done that.

Did the tire shop tighten it instead of loosening? From the first pic, wouldn’t the lug nut have ripped the other way if they were loosening it when it broke?

Sorry you had to go through this. It sucks when your truck is down. On the brighter side I now know to never purchase anything from Custom Offsets. They seem to be lacking in customer service.

Dispute the charges in your credit card and I would ask to speak to an owner or general manager on the phone and explain in detail that you where sent the wrong lug nuts for your application and would like to send the wheels back and get a full refund ! I wouldn’t care how awesome the wheels are I refuse to do business with company’s that hide behind policy and fine print to cover up the fact that they made a mistake!

Hope I'm not out of line, but don't those wheels require flat face lugs? Looking at the pics you posted, I don't see any angled recess in the holes. It looks like a 90 degree, as opposed to a beveled edge. This could be your issue, since a ET conical nut would bottom out against the hub before engaging with the wheel much.

That and of course the extra holes.

Damn. Just about to consider buying wheel and tire set from custom offset. Not the news you wanna hear.

Along the lines of ET, how does one know they are required when getting a new set of wheels/tires?

Hey guys, just an update on this whole situation...after many extremely frustrating phone calls, emails, and txts over weeks (I can probably write a book on the situation) they finally gave me my money back...I had to fight tooth and nail to get it, but I wasn’t taking no for an answer because I myself along with every single person who saw this in person knew it was their screw up...funny part is, after I got my money back, another gentleman I know had the SAME EXACT issue with his 2020 Tundra...his tire shop was able to get his wheels off without ruining all 20 studs like mine but his lugs did the exact same thing...the only thing I don’t have resolved yet is the fact that the TPMS sensors they sent don’t work with my truck...and apparently this isn’t new either, they flat out admitted to me that they’re having a lot of problems with the newer Tundras and their sensors...so I have to take my truck back to local shop, have them remove the sensors and send them back to get my refund on them...Just wanted to let everyone know what happened with the situation, and the fact that another guy I know had the identical issue come up on his truck (lugs and sensors)...I guess I have to give CO credit, they ended up refunding me, but it was absolutely ridiculous what I had to do to get it...hope this helps!

And just another FYI, my local tire shop ordered me the correct lugs and I haven’t had any further issues at all, the ones that came with the wheels/tires were absolutely the wrong ones

What a total shit show. This mistake could have hurt you (even killed).

On extended lugs, I have always used ARP. Expensive, but damn worth it. I have seen 8 lug wheels grab traction and sheer all off, wheel and tire hit the ground.

I don't understand what happened here. How was the ET part of the lug holding the wheel on? The ET part should not be holding the wheel on, only the shoulder of the lug should be in contact with the lug seat. The ET part should go INTO the lug hole to grab more thread, that's it and that's all. It should not press fit into the lug bore. I feel like the wheel did not have the proper lug bore diameter to accommodate that ET lug. The ET part should not touch the wheel at all. Again, ONLY THE LUG SHOULDER SHOULD CONTACT THE LUG SEAT. NOTHING ELSE SHOULD TOUCH THE WHEEL. In the proper scenario, if the lug were to break like it did for you, the wheel should still be able to slide off the broken lug.

Glad you're on the road again OP. This does seem like something was missed between compatibility of your lugs and your wheels.

Yes sir, totally agree!...the thing that got me super upset was they were originally INSISTING that it was my fault and I must have done something wrong (Mind you, I’ve been doing my own work on my vehicles for years, just installed my own lift kit right before this, so I think I can put wheels/tires on...lol), even after my local tire shop told them they were the wrong lugs...I can go on for days telling you guys about the nightmare I went through before they finally agreed to refund me for the damages...but at the end of the day, I’m just happy they did and it’s over!

When I talked to the guy who did the hands on work he said that they had to basically “heat them up” and drill/chisel them out (if I understood him correctly)...that was after trying other methods without any luck...all 20 studs were destroyed

Im in the EXACT SAME BOAT as you were. Wheels and lugs came from Custom Offset. Luckily i've been able to drive my truck. WTF is going on with that company?? I read on another thread the tire shop was able to remove by pushing the studs through with an air chisel. Im planning on attempting to remove mine within the next few days. Damn.....
