Thanks for the tips. I bought an aftermarket grill and garnish, but it was fully functioning and no issues until I removed both sensor and grill to install grill Leds. Nothing has changed except I disconnected the battery when reinstalling the grill/surround back, I don’t think the grill Leds interfere with the sensor. And the sensor sits in one position on the 19+ grill. There’s no way to really adjust it. I don’t understand what is the issue here, cause it was working completely fine before I installed the Leds...... I read online for the Tacoma’s you need to include a couple washers to level/angle the tss sensor so I will try that. I did remove the sensor off the grill for a second time when installing the LEDs..... not sure what it is, damn it! I don’t want to take it apart for the 5th time but I may have to to make sure no water intrusion or possibly take off and put back on the sensor again...

I’m thinking of buying an oem grill but honestly the aftermarket is pretty close and since it was working fine before I don’t think it’s the grill issue.....

for the sake of troubleshooting, disconnect the LEDs that you installed and try running the radar without that connection.

i dont know what you may have purchased for LEDs but perhaps you are having shielding issues and feeding into the TSS system via power or ground. just an idea. good luck

tried this multiple times to see if it was the LEDs. Removed both ground and power completely and put back oem fuse. Sadly Sensor still unavailable. It’s for sure not the LEDs.... I think the TSS thinks it’s out of place but doesn’t make sense because it worked before in the position it’s now in... as there is a designated spot for the sensor to screw in... still baffled... hopefully i can find a solution. Thanks for the help

The camera and sensor are aligned. If the sensor moved lower with the pro grill then they are not aligned anymore. Believe me! They bought back my 2018 because of sensor failures. I know that system very well. If they replaced my sensor by itself it was messed up again quickly. When they calibrated the sensor and camera together after replacing things worked for longer.

How much did they charge you for the calibration? I've been having issues with my 2020. I swapped my grille to the old style pro grille + AJT TSS relocation bracket and the next day had my windshield replaced (chipped while shipping to the dealership), and it's been doing it randomly ever since. Therefore I don't know if it was the grill or windshield that started it.

About to bring it in for 5000 mi service and want them to take a look. Planning on telling them it started after the windshield replacement and hoping they cover it under warranty.

Mine was covered under warranty. Can you put the old grill on before you go in? Then say it’s been acting up since they replaced the windshield? Just tell them you heard the both need to be calibrated after a windshield or sensor replacement.

I had to have the windshield replaced on my 2018 a couple weeks ago (rock chip/crack). My insurance set me up through Safelite, but they couldn't come to me and I had to set up and appointment to go to their shop because they said the camera in the rear view mirror would need to be recalibrated, and they couldn't do that anywhere but the shop. Maybe when your windshield was replaced that camera never got recalibrated, causing the issues?

It’s definitely the grill. I have a 2019 and used the older style trd pro grill with color matched surround and bulge. I like the older style better. Bought the Ajt bracket and installed. My tss was malfunctioning so I disconnected the battery for a few hours. When I put it in for my next service, I had them recalibrate the sensor just for peace of mind. They quoted me $550 but my buddy is gsm at the dealership and they “only” charged me $200. I don’t think it worked as I have not been alerted of any pre collision warnings since and I have been testing it. The older style grill seems to not marry well with the technology.

I can't, as I already sold my old grill =(

Oh it was definitely never re-calibrated. The dealer outsourced the replacement to a ma and pa glass shop in town. The only person working that day was a new guy who had never done one before. Life has been too crazy to go to the dealership just for that, so I've been waiting for the 5000 mi service.

I will definitely try disconnecting the battery for a while today to see if that helps.

Weird, I've seen many people in these forums with the old style grilles and AJT bracket who haven't had any problems.

I’ve been running the older TRD Pro grille with the Jomax customs bracket for almost a year and not one hiccup. Even leveled raising the front 2.5” and still rock solid.

My 2019 has the post-recall TSS sensor, did you all get the recall update they put out?

That's the first I've heard of the Jomax bracket... I wonder if that's my issue. If the dealer won't recalibrate it for free, I'm gonna try switching from the AJT to the Jomax.

The TSS radar sensor appears to be picky. I don’t know about the AJT bracket but I hope you have good luck with the Jomax bracket. It’s more expensive but made out of stronger materials and configured a little different.

That’s my hope. I love the Ajt stuff and wanted to keep it consistent. It’s considerably less but was well made and seemed to be well engineered. I am hoping the jomax fixes the problems. If so - lesson learned that you get what you pay for I guess

I don't wanna get my hopes too far up, but disconnecting the battery overnight may have fixed my TSS issues. On a typical drive to/from work, I'll get the errors about halfway there. Two days in and no errors. I even went on a longer drive today to check out a property and it never came on. I even tried radar cruise for the first time with no issues! Super hopeful but I'm expecting it to fail again, because that's my luck. I'll definitely keep you guys updated.

Good luck - hope it stays working. The whole system seems wonky.

Sucks to hear people have issues with the tss system, I really enjoy the radar cruise control, I don’t use the lane departure warning or blind spot motoring really. I know how to pay attention while driving. I have had the warning pop up 3 times in 40,000 miles.

First was when I drove through a cloud of bugs. I got the system unavailable clean sensor warning, I stopped at the next gas station and cleaned the windshield and grill sensor area and was gtg

Second was in heavy rain picking up my dads new Tesla and the Tesla systems wouldn’t work either. So I can’t fault the truck. It was annoying that once I got out of the rain I had to power cycle the truck to get it working again.

third was a false emergency brake warning (very sketchy). I was driving under an overpass with a chrome tanker waiting at a light on the top. The glare from the sun lit up the whole front of my truck and if I hadn’t had my visor down would have blinded me too. Unfortunately no system can be perfect but overall I’m happy with the tss systems performance.

That sucks. Truth be told, the sensor really isn’t made to be moved around. A dealership may recalibrate it for you at a cost. But they’ll def make you sign the waiver alleviating them of anything related to the pcs system and may not even solve it. If you got fed up and went back to stock you’ll be sol.

Light came on again this morning on way to work. Later this afternoon, no light, tss works correctly (tested system on a parked car). Fingers crossed.

I also emailed AJT, his only advice was to disconnect the battery for a few hours.

Update - I disconnected my battery overnight on the 13th and didn't have any issues all week, and I drive about 20 miles a day most days and previously got errors every drive. I had to drive 5 hours on the 18th and about 4 hours in I got an error, although it was only the pre-collision malfunction. Usually I get that and auto headlights or radar cruise unavailable. On the drive back today, it happened about an hour in. Re-started and it didn't come back the rest of the trip home. Gonna disconnect the battery again tonight, since that seemed to stop it for a while at least.

It will only continue. A properly functioning system won’t give you errors.

Like I’ve stated before. Any adjustments will most likely require the sensor and camera to be calibrated together. I used to get the same warnings randomly till it was done properly.

Yeah, we know. Just trying to find fixes to issues that don't cost $800 for a "proper calibration" just because we have a different grill or lift.

Glad to hear. Makes you wonder what the issue was, alignment, the cover? I’ve read the TSS radar sensor is sensitive.
