So this probably isn’t the right place for this, but close kinda? :notsure:

I’m still in my first gas tank, but every time I shut my truck off it gives me a little ride summary...and so far (and I am babying it since it’s still under 500 miles) I’ve been at 16-18 mpg every trip driving around town. Could that be right? Or is the computer doing a shitty calculation because it still hasn’t gotten reality under its belt? Zero interstate driving and I’m averaging on the top end of the highway mpg rating?

mine is always an MPG or so on the optimistic side. that said, 16 is about what i see depending on how much stop and go i get into in the city. most of my miles have been highway, and according to fuelly im getting 17ish MPG when my computer tells me 18-18.5. take the numbers with a grain of salt. i mainly just use it see where i can improve if MPG's is what im going for.

Your truck has yet to even learn your driving habits. My first couple tanks showed over 600 miles on DTE before it adjusted to down in the 400's. I wouldn't personally trust the MPG rating. just wait until you fill up and calculate it by hand.

Also, depending on your terrain and driving style, 16-18 doesn't seem too far off.

After fill up, I’m at 516 miles to empty with an average of 15.6 miles per gallon. I am using a signal booster which has helped my gain 1 mpg.

Okay, first fill up: 502 miles, got 31 gallons, and averaged right around 16mpg. The computer said I still had about 25 miles to empty. All seems right with the world.

With my natural lead foot, I should be averaging 13mpg in no time.

I like a little left in the tank. My history tracks at about 30 gal. per fill-up with a 520 mile range. Happy with that and the mpg so far. Based on my history and estimating at least 6 gallons left to be safe at 15mpg allows for an additional 90 miles of travel just in case you get distracted with the joy of driving this amazing truck. Note stats attached.

Nice data logging. It's interesting to see your MPGs trending progressively downward. What do you think's attributing to that? Heavy foot or enjoying the V8 more?

I don't believe it's heavy foot or enjoyment. It's more around town shorter trips since the pandemic. Previously we drove to grandson's house each week (90miles each way) helping the avg. miles per trip value. Beyond that some of the higher mpg tanks I believe are associated with the opening of ATV season and trails a little further away in the mountains. Even in-town driving on the Western Slope of Colorado is pretty tame traffic wise and things are pretty close in the smaller towns.

I love the 38 gallon tank! It's really nice being to drive all day and not worry about running out of gas. My trips from western Colorado to western Wyoming have very few gas stations on the way, and sometimes I don't want to wait 20 minutes to fill up. I could make it from my home to our second house on one tank, but I tend to drive with the tank more than 1/2 full.

Hey you have the exact same lift and wheel tire setup that I do on my 2013 4.6. I am looking at getting a 2020 and swapping everything over. What would the average mpg be with that setup? Thanks

Thanks. So probably not much different than my 4.6? I'm not sure what I'm getting in it.

Nice. Yeah if I decide to buy the one I'm looking at my lift and 34's will move over to it.

When my empty light comes on, the most I've ever put in it was 29 and that was forcing it in. I've never pit more in it. Could sometjing be wrong or is there a techstream setting that could be changed.

My mileage is constant at 14mpg

Nothing’s wrong it’s the built in reserve with these Tundras.
The light came on with my 26 gal tank and I had at least 6 gallons still in there and now with my 38 gal tank I have 10 gallons still in the tank.

    New Orleans to Chicago.
38 gallon is an absolute necessity. 80-85 on hwy 55
13-14 mpg hand calc on all gas on the way up. Display was pretty accurate too. On the way up it was all foot controlled. The way back was a combo of cruise and foot. I found the cruise was the same as long as there was no traffic. Traffic and this cruise would cut throttle and apply throttle very heavily. Those mpg’s were in the 12’s
Not that I really care, but I get better around town with a bit of under 70 mph interstate.
    Long live the 38!

Were you towing? I didn't get to hand calculate it but the computer said I burned 12 L/100 km (19.6 mpg) on my last highway trip, though I was burning ethanol free gas due to our local station being out of regular.

    Completely empty with no trailer.
All stock except for K02’s at 40psi
Not a great deal of hills on that route either. Heck I am happy with 400 mile range, ready to get out of the cab about that time anyway.
