At 1385, I’m jealous as well. I’m at 1240 lbs and that was before adding my ARE cap.

Not that it matters. 1425lbs. :) shows a reduction of 37lbs. Does the spray in liner weigh that much?

Not really sure why we are comparing 1/2 tons to 3/4 & 1 ton trucks though.

I am not comparing, just came to realization there was so much difference. Camping time is coming and I came to a conclusion I would need to borrow my families farm truck which is a good ol 06 duramax to haul the 10,000 gross weight toy hauler safely.

The GVWR for a CM 4x4 is 7200#'s and for the DC 4x4 it's 7100#'s. At the risk of sounding like Mr Obvious, if you have access to scales, simply weigh your truck and subtract that from the applicable number to determine your available payload for that moment.

I'm 160#'s and by myself, full tank of gas, Bed Rug, and 275/75/18 St Maxx's, my '18 SR5 CM TRD OR weighs 6100, leaving me with an official available payload of 1100.

Unfortunately, I'm finding more and more need in my life for a 2500/3500 than for Tundra reliability. Also, having 6 butts to haul with only 5 seats is also factoring in heavily. It will be a sad day indeed but I'm afraid it's coming soon.

Agreed, but having said that, you can strip weight off to make room for other stuff. I wonder what my console safe weighs? I could remove that and.... Nah.

Working in the aviation world and our company doing all sorts of "Mods" GWI (gross weight increase) was something we were always looking into. I always question the airlines and how on earth they use an "average weight of a passage" The FAA seems to look right past this. There is no way they know how much weight they have on board at take off...

I’m in the exact same boat. Really don’t want to leave Toyota or the Tundra but I won’t overload or overwork my truck.

So, by that rule of thumb, your 1/2 ton Tundra should have a payload of 1/2 ton or...1000 pounds?

Marketing's job is to not lie to the customer, but to "creatively" show the product in the best possible light. If increased payload is a desirable feature, and it can be increased by eliminating any and all options, using bigger optional tires, etc. then that's the configuration they will cite for advertised payload.

What is the REAL payload? Above the yellow tire placard, you will find a white placard. Read the model number of your truck off that placard. Go to Section 9-1 Specifications, Vehicle Capacity Weight in the Owner Manual (page 517 in 2017 OM):

For (model code) Crew Max, 5.7L, 4WD, short bed: Vehicle Capacity Weight (Occupants + luggage) = 1385 pounds (footnote 3: Vehicles with towing package). If you were equipped as in footnote 6 (Vehicles with towing package, electric moon roof, and large fuel tank), your vehicle capacity weight would be down to 1230 pounds. There's probably a Crew Max 1560 pound vehicle capacity weight in your OM charts somewhere, but not with 4WD.

If you had gotten a Regular Cab, 5.7L, 2WD, long bed (available in 2017), your vehicle capacity weight would have been 1985 pounds.

The 4 cylinder Chevy S10 I used to own had a payload capacity of almost 1500lbs. Little econo shitboxes like Hyundais Elantras with $40 14" tires have a payload capacity around 900lbs.

Obviously a Tundra can handle more than 1385. Buy airbags and E-rated tires if you need to go over that and don't put all the weight on the rear bumper if you don't have to. 2000lbs of gravel in the bed and 2000lbs of tongue weight are completely different.

I've seen that video, and it's excellent. It clears the air for anyone thinking air bags can replace a WDH.

My remedy to our tundras 1/2 payload capability is towing a flat bed trailer if i must transport heavy stuff.

My only yellow sticker shows reduced by 12lbs? Possible for oem bed rug?

Okay i am starting to think, my steel wheels tow package, oem rubber floor mats reduced my starting payload of 1560 to 1385?

I think the truck explodes and Kiichiro Toyoda rises up from the flames to shame you for not adhering to the sticker.
