Hello everyone! Has anyone ever used a bully tuner for their first gen? I wanted to add a little something and I am not sure if it will even work with 2005 4.7L ( as far as getting all of the sensor readings) and if its worth it , or if I will be creating problems for myself? Any thoughts?

I don't think they do any horsepower favors for our trucks. If you want to read sensors get a Scanguage2 or one of those apps with a dongle.

I feel like the dongle doo dads are the way to go. I have the SG2 but some of the screen shots I’ve seen from others, make me with I had the dingle

Too funny, I knew what you meant French toasty , and thank you for the response’s. I do want the More power , I have the scan gauge or is brother and it gives info except for trans temp which I wish it had that , and not sure if any other gauge reader would Give that , because if there isn’t a trans temp sensor in the truck then it would not be able to read it correct? Does the 2005 tundra have a trans temp sensor?

There are just not that many options for our trucks out there. I love my truck and now with all the work I have done to it , I love it even more, but it’s addicting upgrading your truck lol ... I actually sold a vintage skateboard and so I have some extra money that I wanted to put into my truck and someone suggested the bully tuner but if it doesn’t give more power for first gens then it would not be worth It or if it can hurt the engine some how

Toyota computers have been an issue with tuners for decades.
    You want power? 2 options
Get all maintenance up to date.
    Supercharger

    That's it

Thank you . Yeah all of my service has been always up to date , this year I have done all new O2 sensors , denso ignitions , fuel injectors cleaned , cold air intake , battery, upgraded the brake system and a lot more I can’t think of off hand lol . The super charger was the first thing I wanted to do! But from what I have read and seen the VVTI doesn’t like super chargers and blows the engine . 2005 is the year Toyota went to the variable valve timing in the 4.7L and I worked at a Toyota dealership when they were new and the TRD super charger was blowing the engines and eventually Toyota stopped offering them on those trucks

Is there a super charger out there that works on the 2005 without any issues? Please, please let me know ... because that would be the best!!!

I've heard the same thing. I believe some people have the Magnuson supercharger working on the vvti truck but I don't know enough info to say how.
Dirty Deeds is the phone call you will have to make. Keith is the best with these trucks as he himself owns a few. There injectors make the truck run/perform better but hp increase is minimal if any. There exhaust systems are the best for our trucks hands down.

Thank you very much ! I will look at that and give a call. I have the original TRD exhaust upgrade and have been happy with that , thought about headers but for the cost and potential problems in the future just not sure if it would work. I was quoted $700 to install $700 headers lol

The headers are expensive for the 05-06 due to the air pump exhaust thingy. Theoretically, you can add the bypass (you will need to eventually) then purchase the 03-04 headers. I have been toying with the idea but I'm not sure how much gains for the $$ equation.

I get it , I want headers really bad , but I know there can be leaks and gasket issues, and the cost is just too much for the gains and I am not sure what they will be either to be honest

The regular TRD supercharger can be fitted on a vvti motor. Tinik (Crazy Ivan) made it work on his truck and eventually put it up for sale. The thing about superchargers blowing up motors wasn't on 05 models, they stopped putting them on at 04. People were getting power pulleys to bump the boost, bending rods and putting the stock pulleys back on to warranty the motors. That's when Toyota said no more, we can't have nice things!

There isnt a chip or tune for these trucks is that is worth the money, the bulldog tune is for the 2nd/3rd gen. Best options are headers and a free flow muffler. You won't get leaks if you buy quality parts and install them right. I installed my headers ten years ago, no leaks.

Or if you run bigger than stock tires you can get 4.56 or 4.88 gears, not cheap but they'll put a smile on you.

How could I forget gears, I've been thinking about an LSD with 4.10 gears for a little bump. I'm waiting to heal up so I can start wondering the local junkyards.

4.10 isn't worth the trouble. With stock tires I would go 4.30 at least. With 285s i would go 4.56 (in fact I did) and anything bigger i would go 4.88s

Gear calculators scare everybody when you see your highway rpm is 500 higher than stock, but that doesn't hurt gas mileage in these trucks.

I know the 4.10 gears was an option but I'm not sure what or how to tell if a truck has it. If I find an LSD for cheap in the local u pull it then I would have it rebuilt with 4.30. that would be a good compromise
