Hi, thanks for input. My camera is different than one in schematic you sent. Here is my “trigger” wire I don’t know what to do with...upload_2020-6-26_10-8-2.jpg

Scott. I called and left a message. Get back with me if you're still having camera issues. It's much easier to diagnose by voice than text.

Based on your diagram. You should connect the FRAC power line to the Red "B" tigger wire then cap off the red wire on the red/black pair and connect the black wire to ground.

Does the screen go black when you select the front cam? And does the rear cam work when you shift into reverse as well as when you select it on the FRAC switch?

EDIT: The red wire in the red/black pair SHOULD be internally the same as the red wire at "B". But I would connect the "B" red wire to the FRAC power wire just to be safe. You should have 12 volts on both of those wires if one is connected to the FRAC Harness power line and the Head Unit is on.

    Thanks, Lou

Happy to assist. I never like to hear someone is having difficulties with the installation, but I thoroughly test every FRAC Harness before it leaves the shop, so it's usually easy to solve. Great work on your installation, too!

I have the same camera. I have not installed it yet, but I did do a quick continuity test with a multimeter. I got tone with the red wire in the red/black pair and the "B" trigger wire - which it states underneath the diagram: "If your head unit without A trigger wire, then no need to use B trigger wire". So, I take it, that means either red wire could be used for the 12v power supply.

Thanks for this awesome mod, Tex. Just got the notice my FRAC harness is shipping! Looking forward to installing it.

You are correct, Jason. Either Red wire may be connected to the FRAC Harness power lead for front camera power. Just make sure the other one is capped off since it will have 12 volts on it whenever the head unit has power.

Welcome to Tundras.com! Glad you're officially a member now and honored that you chose the FRAC harness as your first mod!

I haven't personally used this DVR, but others in the thread have. So my assumption is that you would select the camera position that is being recorded and activate the DVR playback function if you want to watch it on the Head Unit display. Otherwise, you remove the SD Ram card and play back the file of interest on your computer. I believe every power cycle creates a new AVI file.

    Lou,
Thanks for all your help with the FRAC & a Pyle video switching unit (needed 2 inputs for rear cams) install. I have to do this to carry motorcycles in the bed. Also helps when carrying bikes with a bed pad covering the OEM rear cam.
I mounted a Pyle 4way video switch (PLVSPLT41)in the glovebox to allow a license plate camera for running tailgate down. This switch has a remote, but must have line of sight for it to work. So, I decided to mount it in the glovebox & run inputs/output wires there. FRAC included plenty of length, but made "splitter" for power wire to power front & 2nd rear cam. After 3 weeks, it's running perfectly & switches at the touch of a button (once glovebox is opened). It even allows viewing of multiple cameras at the same time via split screen (up to 4 ways).
Running the front cable was more "fun" than the YouTube video showed, but once I took out the glovebox parts (again) it went smoothly.
My wife (who drives the truck most) LOVES having the extra cameras for parking. Looking forward to adding a 3rd (& maybe 4th) rear cam for towing.
For those looking at buying a FRAC...Lou is a totally class act & provides the best customer service ever!!!
    Stay safe brother...& go JSF.

@102dalz Do you have pictures of: (a) the wire connections between the FRAC and the Pyle unit and (b) the Pyle unit install? We do love pictures here!

Btw now that I’m spoiled with the front camera, the rear needs an upgrade. Has anyone found one on Amazon the is a direct fit replacement?

Links to what? Do an Amazon search for Pyle video switch...I also used a Pyle license plate mounted camera (PLCM18BC), easy search for model numbers.

The video switch, it’s just nice to know exactly where it came from when reading about it. I did a search and got several hits , cameras... and in google the switch came up with several models.

I was just tacking on the request for pics with a link. But adding the model number was helpful for the camera so thanks :) lots of switches..

Lou, got a question about the mini dvr at the bottom of page, it comes with a 120v adapter to 12v dc. Did you just cut out the adapter part and wire the cord up to 12v car battery?

Yes. The "Wall wart" adapter that comes with it has a 12VDC output. So you can cut it and connect it to any 12V source. I recommend not connecting it directly to the battery, as it will always be on and could drain your battery over time. You can connect the DVR power lead in parallel with the Front Cam power lead from the FRAC harness to get a good ignition-switch 12 Volts. If you do this check your FRAC harness fuse value. If it has a 2-Amp fuse, I would replace it with a 3-amp. I started using 3 Amp fuses about 2 years ago to account for extra connections to the power lead.

They provide BNC Plugs and BNC-RCA adapters (at least they did with a couple of these that I bought) and a power adapter with the DVR. You can cut off the wall wart and use the provided adapter to connect the 12VDC power or you can buy the 5.5mm power pigtails online.

Yes, and for additional reference the white RCAs are for Audio recording. The Yellow connectors are BNCs and they are for Video. The DVR comes with BNC to RCA adapters that you can use to connect the yellow BNCs to the FRAC Harness RCAs.

Yes. However I am working on developing some OEM-like switches. Those won’t be ready for a while though.

Anyone have pics of switch mounting locations for the FRAC install. I dont have any open OEM slots and dont want to put the switches in a bad location.

Check out post #1 of this thread. A lot of guys are putting the switches in the “ledge” area above the USB port panel.
