I'm getting ready to buy an every day driver truck. I'm looking at a few different 2005 and 2006 Tundras. I want a crew cab. This will be my hunting rig and be used on the farm some. I want something I can build as I go and don't want to spend a ton on a new one. What do I need to be aware of before I buy one?

    Welcome for SoCal!

Avoid structural rust. Make sure the timing belt and water pump got changed at about 90k intervals. Everything else, you can do inexpensively.

What part of the country ‘you in?

Well then, add flood damage to your list, for any southern truck. But really, the rust is the big thing.

A lot of people have joined on the last year looking for— or just bought— 1st gens. If you take some time to search you’ll find more than the main concerns I mentioned, but no big problems, and a lot of great advice for buying, and maintaining.

    Welcome from South Florida.

Rust is the biggest issue. After that, CEL for secondary air pump junk thingy. It's expensive to fix but a bypass is available for $250.
