I have a 2004 Toyota tundra crew cab 4x4 that I just put new drums and shoes on and the pedal felt low so I adjusted the shoes so they rub the drums and now if I have the truck up in the air and let it run in drive and hit the brake the first press of the pedal the rear brakes does not stop but If I do a second pump on the pedal the rear brakes grab. anyone else have that issue?

Is your rear brake cable adjusted properly?

Is there slack in the cable when the brakes are not applied?

Did you bleed the brakes properly?

I did not bleed the brakes because I did not open the system. That's my next step I will do.

Maybe air entered the system around the piston seals when the shoes were installed? Having done this job before, I know the cylinders will squish back and forth pretty easily when mounting the shoe ears and there is the possibility that the cylinder pistons seals are worn. Maybe they are giving up the ghost?

I just bleed the rear brakes and all is good again I have a full pedal. That's the first brake job I have had to bleed the brakes when I did not open up the brake system. Lesson learned I guess on the turndra's.
