Wholesale pricing and a vehicle's actual value are two different things

    Hey Guys.

I just bought a 08 Tundra 5.7 2WD for $14,6xx with 109k miles. Double cab. Records included and seems well taken care of.

Should I buy power train warranty? 2 year, 24,000 miles for $1387

No indication of cam tower leak and I dont think the AIP would be covered. Looking into the bypass kit while Im ahead

I think that s a personal decision that no one but yourself can make. I would at least read all the paperwork on it you can. Especially about exclusions, and oem replacement parts. I had a crappy extended warrenty. The fine print stated non oem parts could be substituted for oem.

Did that for giggles and shits back in March. They listed an $18k offer for my Taco that booked for $29k and I ended up selling private for $28k.. suck it, Carvana.

I prefer to use oem on my Toyota's so I dont have an issue with that.

I've attached two thumbnails showing what's included in red and the blue is excluded. Im considering it due to the possibility of the cam towers and valve covers leaking, but thats about it.

    Thanks.

I cannot believe how crazy the used tundra market is. Talking with some guys at work that also drive tundras, a couple of them are getting cold called from dealers asking to trade for their trucks. The nearest dealer to me has 0 new tundras on the lot.

Just for grins, I plugged mine into the carvana site and was blown away by what they are offering. Its more than I paid new 18 months ago.

Screenshot_20200804-214344_Chrome.jpg Can't confirm it but I have heard that they give high offers to lure people in and then try to reduce it when they come to pick it up. Here is what I just pulled for my 2013 DC 4.6. Two dealers are stuck on 12K for trade. I told them they weren't getting my truck and that I don't need or have to buy one. It would be worth more to keep it and have 2 trucks.

I sold a car to Vroom a while back. Whole process was super easy and 100% legit - no games or BS and no dealing with low ball trade in offers or Craigslist BS.

2019 CM Limited Premium. 20k miles..

KBB trade value shows 42k. Private party is 46k. I paid 43.5k a year ago.

When I traded a 16 mustang GT in on this truck last year, the dealer matched the Crvana offer of $21,400. They listed it for sale a few days later for 27k, and I think it sold for 24-ish.

Ive bought my last three vehicles, including my tundra, off craigslist. I witnesed zero BS. All of the previous owners were nice people. One even had the dealership inspect car, and change the oil.

Glad you were lucky. CL around here is sketchy. I bought my Last car after seeing it on the side of the road with a for sale sign. Super nice people and great car.

Carvana offered $18K for my 2014 SR5 with 70K miles.
Then I searched the same vehicle and found they offer a 2014 SR5 with 101K miles for $27K..

Kelly BB on my truck was $23K trade in, $26K private party.
    That's pretty 'efed up..

$6100. That's USD so it works out to $8100 CAD.

    2 problems.

    1. They didn't have an option for a first gen double cab, so I had to use the access cab for the extimate.

    2. They're insane.

I'd list my truck for $15K and wouldn't accept a penny less than $12K.

$6100....ha. For this?! Not bloody likely.

Some if you seem to not realize that Carvana resells the vehicles. They aren't gonna give you what it's "worth." Plus they take a significant risk buying vehicles the way they do.

I've been offered $10K from the Toyota dealership to trade my truck in. I've had people walk up in a parking lot and offer between $12K and $15K for it.

Even in USD, Carvana's quote is low.

I would say with a vehicle that old their number isn't gonna be what you want regardless. That's a high risk purchase and I'm sure they use industry statistics as opposed to the rest of us who just do our best to inspect a potential used purchase and hope for the best.

I thought they only dealt in stuff no older than 10 years anyway.

A year ago I ran the numbers with them on a 2016 mustang GT base with performance package, 55,000 miles. Retail on it was in the 26-27k range. Per KBB, trade was about 20k. Dealer offered me 19k trade. Carvana's initial offer was 21k. I was ready to take it but the dealer matched it. For a number of reasons I wasnt in a position to private sell so I was happy with the deal.

In my post I said "some" of you, as in "not everyone, but a number of you that doesn't equal everyone."

    SOME

Feel good about yourself when you lay your head on the pillow tonight, knowing that you won't be counted among that group.

    Hat's off to you, sir.

That could be true. Carvana probably doesn't take into account the culture around vehicles either.

1st Gen Tundras, especially reasonably low mileage ones like mine in excellent condition with virtually zero rust, pull the infamous "Toyota Tax". There's a few others on this board that have 1st Gens in similarly great condition who could get $10K+ most likely. Hell, my friend sold her 2000 Tundra last year with 450,000+ kms (280K miles ish), beat to hell interior, rust cancer on the box, hood, roof and wheel wells. She got $6000 for it.

I went to Stevensons Toyota East yesterday to pick up some SightLine wipers. No Tundras on the lot. Quite a few Taco's. Bored salesman comes up as usual to try to get me to buy something. This time I played along. Said he could get me a real good trade in value for my 14 Limited with 115, 440 miles on it. I said what would I trade it in on? You have no trucks.. heh..heh. He pointed to a nice Taco Pro. No way, I'm happy with my 14. He had checked out my 14 while I was in the parts department. Offered me $23K towards a trade! I paid $25.4K last year for my Tunny. Used Tundra prices are crazy now.
