    Hello everyone!

    I have a 2016 Toyota Tundra SR5 4.6L V8 CrewMax 4X2 with the TSS Off-Road package.
Anyone have any suggestions on what weight I should feel comfortable pulling with it?
I am looking to purchase a bumper pull travel trailer and was just doing some research first.

    Thank you in advance! :)

    Welcome aboard Shawn.

Do you still have your owners manual? This is a great resource to help out.

Also check the drivers door sill for your trucks specific ratings.

I have a 4.6 double cab 2wd and have pulled a camper that was a model number 253 and 4500#. As well as a 23 (inside) that was 3100 dry. Then a 21’ deck boat that’s 4500#. Various utility trailers. Highest load of about 5500 pounds. And a bass boat.

beyond just what can you pull you need to think about tongue weight because your payload will limit you as well if you have people, firewood, gear in the truck or bed. Also the camper is a giant box that catches wind and has drag it’s not just about the weight.

with all that said the 4500 dry trailer I was probably at 5500 loaded which was 650# tongue weight with batteries and propane and then another 500# in the cab/bed. So 6000 of my 6800# tow rating. And I could get up to 70/80 with a WDH and flats. Or downhill. But bigger hills I would gas it to get speed going down to be at 50/55 at the top. It was the same with the 21’ deck boat. 4500 dry 5k loaded and 4 men in the truck plus weekend of fishing gear and clothing. So 1000 or so in the cab and bed. I just didn’t bother using 6th gear most of the time and we were fine would just loose speed on bigger hills.

The smaller camper I didn’t have a WDH and didn’t have sway but was keeping it within 35 miles from home and it was lighter.
Consider distance and terrain as well plus all upgrades to your truck as well. I have 33s with 3/2 lift while doing all this towing. I did tow the camper and boat pre lift and no real difference.

Thinking about purchasing a 2021 Tundra SR5 CrewMax. Payload is 1560#, pulling a 7x16 ATC enclosed trailer with 2 race bikes and 2 pit bikes plus gear and crap for weekend at racetrack. Trailer will weigh empty approximately 1965#, loaded it will weigh 3200#. Will we be able to do 60-70mph on highway? Without overloading tranny?

    You will be just fine.

Now that ive towed with both my old 4.6 and my current 5.7, i can say that you’ll be fine with any reasonable trailer. The 4.6 can do anything a 5.7 can, just not as fast.

I pulled a 6k-6500lb trailer with my 4.6 and had zero problem accelerating up mountain grades. The 4.6 is the same design as the 5.7 and feels very strong with rpms. The gear ratio is a little higher though, so it is less torquey. Newer 4.6 trucks don’t have a trans cooler like my 2010 did.
