I have a 2015 Tundra Crewmax sr5 with a tow package. What Trailer brake system is the best for the tundra? Under the steering wheel there is the wiring harness but it didn’t come with the trailer brake system. Any advice will help! Thanks

There is a harness you need to buy. It fits the factory plug and connects to the prodigy. Look it up at a site like etrailer. Once you have the part number, then you can shop around.

Hello, I have a 2014 CM and need to add a controller. Is there a significant benefit of the P3 vs. the P2? I don't do a ton of towing, just the occasional load of mulch or building materials in a tandem axle trailer. I have an old controller that I may use initially and I plan to buy the esp trim piece to stick it into. But the trim piece is different for the P2 and P3 and more than likely I will eventually want to go to one of them. So I want to get the right trim piece for that eventual upgrade. I think the P3 is probably overkill for what I need but I honestly don't know what it adds. And the 90160 Primus IQ is even cheaper than the P2. Will it fit into the P2 trim piece well?

I use the p2, and have been using it before the p3 was available. It does everything I need, does it well and has been very reliable. I think the p3 is easier to adjust the gain since it has up and down buttons rather than a dial like the p2. Other than that, I’m not sure there is a significant difference. I don’t know if the bracket will fit the primus. You’ll have to ask ESP folks that question and let us know what you find out.

The adapter harness required to plug and play a trailer brake controller on Gen 3 Tundras before 2018 is the one below from Tekonsha. This harness plugs into the Toyota harness near the brake controller location. The four wire connector on the other end of the adapter harness is universal to most aftermarket brake controllers.

Since you have the tow package, you already have the dash recess for the brake controller. For the P3, ESP sells both the trim plate for the existing recess, or without the tow package recess, they sell the entire lower dash panel with recess and trim plate. The trim plate for the P3 is pricey, but cheaper than the entire dash panel. ESP also sells an entire dash panel for mounting the P2, but it appears the trim plate alone not available for the P2 (verify with ESP).

The ESP trim plate retains the controller with a tight fit; it does not have tabs that screw-mount the controller. The controller is tightly held by the trim opening, and is trapped between the manual braking lever and the controller housing. It's not going to fall out of the dash. Because of the requirement for a tight fit, the trim plate is very likely controller model specific. The ESP site pricing is $8.95 cheaper than Amazon, but you'll also pay shipping.

For 2014, the harness is still the old style https://www.amazon.com/Tekonsha-304...ords=3040P&qid=1594741723&s=automotive&sr=1-1

Also, I got free shipping on ESP, plus use discount code TNDRASDTCM for additional dollars off.

Good catch for others. Thanks for the catch, and the discount info. The 3031-P is for 2015-2017, which will work for @Yota707.

Any ideas of a wiring harness that will work for the 2018 Tundra?

I assume you know the truck harness connection will be up high behind the passenger side kick panel? If not, there are other threads here for mounting an aftermarket controller in 2018+, and you'll need to search for them...they'll help.

If you know what you need to do, then Tekonsha was not making a harness for 2018+ Tundra earlier this year. Basically, you're going to end up splicing extensions onto two? of the wires in the controller universal harness to extend across from the driver side of the dash to the passenger foot well. The 4 wire connector for the controller will still work. You'll make ground and stop light connections on the driver side near the steering column. You'll extend the power and brake signal wires across the dash to wire directly into the truck harness plug on the passenger side.
