I've connected with the guys behind this. Sounds like the pics show the prototype and that the production version is almost ready for release. They're on Instagram, @dash_pods (pics on that account show several other vehicle models too). They also have a website but its not up and running yet. www.dash-pods.com. I'll definitely be paying attention as that looks ideal to me. That current waste of space is exactly where'd I'd want mine, and it solves my main concern of having the radio mounted there in the direct sunlight (I'm in AZ).

Bought some parts from Ram Mounts and installed in this spot.
We just got back from a 2700 miles road trip with 5 cars, all on GMRS radios. Mine was the only vehicle mounted type , the rest were handhelds . I was able to hear everything from everyone up to about 5 miles out. The little handhelds were low wattage units, but they were hearing me out to 20 miles .
Not a bad unit for the price , I’m happy with it.

Would get entirely too hot here in S TX. Wrapped in vinyl like that it's basically cooking the CB.

Great idea for a mounting option!

I was just given a cb. It s a Uniden PC66a. I m missing a few things; power plug/wire, and an antenna, but I know it works. I wanted some feedback on good antennas, and what else I would need to get this installed, and running in my 2007. (Nothing fancy. Just a simple setup) It will most likely be installed inside the center console.

I do like the size, and mounting location of the firestick in this post, and i m leaning toward this.

I run twin Rami antennae. I've been an ardent fan of Firestiks but I sure love these. They're made in the US, supply the military and are abundant in the tractor trailer world.

It says they are; "SPECIFICALLY ENGINEERED FOR YOUR TRUCK TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE". How does that work? Could they be talking about the truck electronics? I assume the one that I would want is the one that says; "Mack and Sterling Trucks CB Antenna (36", Black) - Jeep - Pickup Trucks". The rest seem to be for tractor trailer rigs.

I ordered one of the antennas. Thx for suggestion. I wonder how hard it would be to use the door speakers instead of the internal one. Any idea how I could tie into them?

The CB has an AC jack for an external connection. I do not use the internal speaker but mounted one to the 'dead zone' under the AC controls.

One last question. Does the antenna come with a cable, or is that something I have to get separately?

You'll have to buy coax separately. Try to get it the length that you need. Any leftover length can contribute to signal loss/noise interference

I got this little President radio, fits under the console real well. Just used a standard hood mount for the antenna. Happy with the setup, I can reach out a few miles.

I have a Cobra wx75 and the mount is under the drivers set. The hand set has all the guts of the CB, take a look at the cobra site and you can see everything is hidden. I take the mic and store it in the center console, no one can see the unit. I use a magnetic mounted antenna and I stow it behind the back seat when not in use.
