i have 17,000 miles on this truck and recently had the check engine light come on and the words traction control off appear where the normal modes are posted. this seems to have nothing to do with the traction control button as it still functions normal. i tried disconnecting the battery to clear the check engine light but it comes back on in seconds. Any ideas?

I had the same thing happen when I owned the Tacoma around 17,000 miles. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the charcoal canister. Apparently if you try to top off the fuel tank fuel can spills into the charcoal canister causing the truck to through the code.

Mine had automatic headlamp level fault, pre-collision fault, and towing circuit fault at less than 3k miles on the odometer.
Dealer troubleshot it to a faulty steering wheel angle sensor.
Hopefully, the parts will come this week so the warning messages go away.

Just adding more info to the thread. Hope it helps. Had the traction control off indicator and check engine light come on at the same time. I have a pedal commander and wondered if it tripped something. Unplugged battery for a system reset and the Kight turned off. It’s been a week and it hasn’t come back on.
