    Hey guys,

I'm wondering if anyone has painted a camper shell red to match 2005 Salsa Red on my DC. I found a Jason brand camper shell to fit my DC for $300, but it is gold or silver in color, can't quite tell yet. I am wanting to paint it to match but am wondering if it will be hard to match the red. I'm aware of buying paint from a good autobody supply source, and my friend has a gun and compressor.

Just wondering if anyone has painted red to match and what their experience may have been like. Also wondering if anyone has any input on the Jason cap brand, this one is in good shape and while not as nice as an ARE it seems like a good cap.

    Any perspective here is appreciated.

    Thanks,

I've painted lots of motorcycles, and a few trucks and cars over the years. Proper prep is essential. It's lots of work to do it right. Professional materials, paint, catalyst, thinner, or reducers, sealers, etc are expensive and hard to find depending on the state or country you live in (EPA in Ca makes it near impossible to get materials anymore). When you add it up it might be cheaper, and most likely a better result to just pay a body shop to do the whole job. But to answer your original question, yes it can be matched. Chunk.

They can just easily match the factory paint code to get you the right paint.
But as was already said it is a whole different deal to get a Pro Finish on the cap which is why there are pros that do that work for money.

And how exactly do you not know what color the top is yet?

The pictures on the dude's ad kind of had shitty lighting so it was hard to tell if the cap was a gold or silver color. I ended up finding a color matched one with some peeling clear coat so just need to patch that up.

Thanks for the perspective. I ended up finding one color matched for less money than the original one I'd found. It does have some clear coat peeling on the top but my Tundra is already kind of old so I don't need it to be perfect. I'm looking into how to sand down the peeling areas and patch them up now.
