I watched some of the 4th of July, "Salute To America", celebration today, and one thing really stuck out. Some of the service members who were in uniform were not wearing covers. They obviously had permission to not wear them, but it just looked odd.

It’s a rule!... No covers (hats/berets) are to be worn indoors, ever.

It actually depends on how the treat the ceremony. I have been through a few change of command ceremonies that are treated as outdoor and we wore covers inside.

    This was outdoors. Not indoors.

I suppose the rule may be broken upon direct orders from your chain of command.

Doesn’t fit into my understanding of protocol. Not sure what the directives were. Stuff is always changing, I guess

I see Marines, and Navy standing at attention with no covers. It must be a holiday thing.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    Wrong.

USMC rules are if you are armed, or the duty, duty NCO, officer of the day etc you have a cover on. Pistol belt being worn = cover on your nasty grape.

My son, who is a combat veteran, told me that. I had no reason to think he might be wrong. Obviously there’s some exceptions.
    Thank you for your service!

We always had to wear a cover while outside in the Army ... odd that they are not wearing.
