    Let’s talk pistol suppressors!

I’m in the market for one to attach to my HK VP9.

Which one would you guys recommend? I’m having trouble deciding if I would rather have a full length or modular can. For the guys with modular cans, which configuration do you keep it in for nightstand use? Full length or short?

Right now I’m in between the Rugged Obsidian 9, GemTech Lunar 9, and the CGS Mod 9 / Mod 9SK.

I really like the cans from Suppressed Armament Systems myself. I run their "Frenzy" model on my Glocks and really like it. I run the "Reaper" on my rifles.

    https://suppressedarmament.com/#./9mm

Their customer support is top notch. Tim has spent more time answering my questions and getting me set up for what I wanted and needed than I could have realistically expected from a business owner.

Definitely a modular suppressor with lightweight materials used. Im not sure if the obsidian has lightweight model. One thing that’s very attractive with Rugged Suppressors is the warranty and it’s a good one and they definitely stand by their product.

CGS is also good and has a good sound suppression. I believe NFA Review Channel did reviews on several of their suppressors.

Admittedly , Im just starting to dabble in suppressors .
I like the idea of one for my 556 , but from all the research ive read , most rifle rounds are difficult to suppress due to the supersonic speeds

I suppress supersonic 7.62x51 and 5.56x45 rifle rounds, and I'm sure ears down range close to the target will not be able to tell where the shots are coming from. Subsonic is best used when you don't want much sound of the shot around the shooters ears, and when your target is rather close-in.

Completely agreed. Ive wrestled with the need/want factor for a while now. SilencerCo is tops on my list right now , followed closely by Surefire.
This would live on my 10.5" pistol upper

I was in the same boat a while ago. As much as I like separate cans for each caliber, I can't afford 1-2 cans for everything I want to suppress and stamping them all. I went with the Silencerco Hybrid. It is a bigger can, than what you would normally attach onto a pistol, but it fits what I need. Louder than a dedicated can, but not by much. FYI, I also have an Omega 36m that I'm planning on using as a pistol can since I can shorten it.

If you have a 45ACP or ever plan to get one, I would look at a 45 can. I have an Osprey-45 and Obsidian-45 and have piston adapters for both to mount to any pistol. Also with a 45 can, most are rated for 300 blackout, so it gives you more flexibility.

There are several factors to consider, like mods on our trucks, it will come down to the user's preference. Most of the manufacturers now offer multi caliber cans that can be mounted on different firearms. Some are also user serviceable.

I'm fan of the SilencerCo Osprey. The offset design makes the iron sights more functional. This is the .45 model, so I can swap out pistons/threads for smaller calibers if needed.

.45ACP is inherently subsonic when using standard 230grn FMJ or similar ammo. Even if your ammo is supersonic, there will still be noise reduction.

The Osprey is another one I have looked at. Ease of maintenance is a big factor for me, how tough are those to breakdown and clean?

Pistol suppressors really do not require cleaning, same with rifle cans. Only 22lr cans need cleaning due to lead build up and it is not fun if you wait too long. You cannot remove the internals of an Osprey. My AAC 223 and my 30 cal Deadair Sandman are sealed cans.

I’ve been fucked over twice on cans.

Absolute most important recommendation I can give, is buy from a reputable MFG that has been in this game and is not leaving.

    Surefire
    AAC
    GemTech
    SilenercerCo

Are the only ones I’ll be supporting.

2nd recommendation, buy a can that you can break down and clean.
My non-serviceable cans are loaded with carbon/lead heavy as hell, and not as quiet.

5.56 still cracks pretty loud out of my Halo. You can’t run it subsonic through an AR and have it still function. I’d use it if SHTF, but I normally don’t run the AR’s suppressed very often. Just not as fun, and the Halo is heavy as hell (full-auto rated).

The .308 cans on bolts I love. Also using it on .300BLK, which is a fun round suppressed/subsonic on the AR platform, and stupid quiet in a Bolt platform.
.300BLK is expensive to reload and to purchase new, unfortunately.

Otherwise, 9mm is really my go to for suppressed. I can reload Subs incredibly cheap as hell, and they function through all my pistols (minus Sig P320) and sub-guns, all with the same easy/cheap Sub recipe.

I have a 45 AAC TiRant that I run on a 45 HK USPT every now and then, but not often at all.

9mm and .308 bolt cans get the most use.

    Surefire FTW!

Also, I’ve said this I don’t know how many times the past few years.......

SBR your shit!!!! People are paying $100-$300 on these fancy Pistol Braces - and at some point they’re going to be banned is my guess (they’re already trying to on the SBA3 - just like the bump stock).
Spend the $200 on the tax stamp, and be done with it. And do it soon. Start the process, before it’s taken away.

So there is the rub... In Washington State I think i read you can own the SBR , but is the stamp required ? And the SBA brace is a Mil spec buffer tube with a stabilizer butt pad, swap off the pad and you have an SBR. Not saying its legal.
I love my little 10" pistol AR , its great for social engagements , but my 16' carbine is set up to "go to war and back" and i run it a lot , including some CQB classes.

Yes, I have 3 of them.
Guess I forgot about the states that don’t allow them! LOL!
So if you CAN do the $200 stamp and SBR it, do it!!
I have numerous WA friends that only have pistols, not SBR’d.
I’ve been trying to convince them lol.

Add Liberty (https://libertycans.net/) and DeadAir to the list of reputable companys to buy from.

Form 1's are under 4 weeks so an SBR would be fairly quick.

I believe this is what I will do. I have a Glock 21 that resides in the nightstand. It would be sweet to put a can on that and then also use it for my Sig MPX. :quickdraw:

I’m with you on this but there are advantages to the brace if you often cross state lines. Also gives you the option to leave your “pistol” loaded in your vehicle in states that don’t allow it for rifles. Like here in WA.

Making preparations for the suppressor...leaning towards the CGS Mod 9.

Sent my slide off today to be milled for a Trijicon RMR. They will be installing the optic as well as new suppressor height sights from Dawson Precision which provide a lower 1/3 cowitness.

Also have a factory HK VP9 threaded barrel coming soon.

I’ve got an Omega 45, Sparrow 22, and an AACSDN-6 30 cal. I’m a fan of Silencerco been debating on which to get next but I love shooting suppressed so much more enjoyable. If you get a 45 can you can run them on all your pistols just need different boosters. Instead in buying one can for each weapon just buy one can for a different range of calibers. But if your debating go ahead and get one you won’t regret it.

Was thinking of going that route but don’t plan on buying any 45 suppressor hosts for a while, thinking of another fun gun next like a Scorpion Evo or MP5 clone. The silencer will sit on the nightstand VP9 99% of the time though so the shorter/lighter 9mm silencer is going to make the most sense for me.
