I got rear ended in my 2007 tacoma 211k miles, bent frame, total loss. I bought it new and was planning on driving it another 100k at least. I loved the tacoma and had planned on another 2nd gen tacoma. The used market here is nuts, I found a nice stock 2015 with 30k, the seller wouldn’t budge from the 33k asking price.

So I bought a new 2019 SR5 DC 4wd 4.6 for 34k. As much as I liked the tacoma I am really happy with the tundra and wouldn’t go back to a tacoma. So much more room and comfort. Hauls more, tows my boat way better. Way more bed room. Quieter. Fuel economy is only slightly worse than the tacoma but pretty close. Parking in the city is harder with the tundra.

To add, I had a third gen tacoma for a rental to try it out. I was not impressed with the 3.5, I don’t think it would be a good choice for towing. The 4 liter In the 2nd gen had way better low end torque. The 4.6 or 5.7 are obviously a serious step up from either tacoma engine.
