Just picked up a box of goodies from Mark at Jomax Customs in Phoenix AZ.

Anyone have any ideas what could be in the box?

    Hint

If you have 4x4, there is an opportunity for a series of small devices to hinder that and not allow you to use 4wd until fixed. This protects those small devices :)

I just realized the title, doh. Should say new product release from Jomax Customs, this is new in their line-up. Only a small list of others make something similar.

My guess would be that Jomax is going to offer ABS sensor shields in addition to the TSS relocation brackets.

No wonder why it was initially a riddle...You'd have to be a complete moron to pay that amount for a couple of pieces of plastic. How about making a product that helps the Tundra community without trying to screw them...:monocle:

To be fair, it is CNC machined aluminum. Still... $225?

Made in America CNC'ed 6061 Aluminum. Price still seems steep compared to SDHQ, but I don't think Jomax has the other established products and size that SDHQ does to let them keep cost down. The link says each is made to order, so there obviously isn't a bulk manufacturing system for these yet. I imagine that if demand is high enough then the price might come down a bit. It also has some nicer lines/look than the SDHQ, and I imagine it takes a bit longer to CNC it that way. Also has an anodized finish. For personal reasons, if I get ABS covers I would do this before SDHQ's.

Understand you have a personal reason but let’s compare with SDHQ: both are aluminum and both are machined from a single piece. Both are anodized.

This is a guard in a location that is not generally visible. So strength wins over looks.

The question, at least for me, is this product so significantly stronger or of a better design that it’s worth over double the price?

It is an individual choice. Factors that matter to one may not matter to another. It's very easy to go for SDHQ if price is the single biggest factor in your personal equation. Absolutely no one, including me, would fault you for buying them if that is your first priority.

I do prefer the look/lines of the Jomax, and the gunmetal finish fits the theme I am going for on my truck, but as you said it's not highly visible. The smoother edges might be less likely to snag anything you are going over, but not sure how big an issue that is for an ABS sensor's location. Essentially, the addition of a color to the anodized coating =$ that Jomax has put in and the additional time to CNC the prettier lines =$ Jomax has put in. Equal quality materials with more time/effort put into them is going to cost more, even if the added time only affects it cosmetically, so I would expect a bit higher price. Double the price is, admittedly, a bit shocking.

Personally, I would not buy from SDHQ unless they had a must have product and I had no other way to get it. I have had one interaction with them, and it was not pleasant or professional. You only get to make one first impression, as they say.

For the record, I have no plans to purchase any ABS sensor guards. Don't see the need for them yet.

I still prefer the covers that are neither of the ones mentioned here. These were less than three times the cost of the ones mentioned... Just my two cents.

They are an aftermarket part that he found. He posted a link up elsewhere, but I don't have time to dig through his post history to find it. So, in short: No. Toyota does not sell these.

It does look very close to sdhq, the changes in the radius set it apart. I'd say you need to bring down the price of these babies to under $120 because the material is similar and the hardware is similar. They offer the same protection and the design will need to be more eye-catchy. Now if you are hard anodizing mil-spec and offering grade 8 bolt which is overkill, the price is more justified. There's another ABS cover already release that is a simpler block design with a spider as well.
