If the PS 165FX and 165FE are both 6.5”, why wouldn’t you just use the same speakers in all four doors?

    TacTun,
I’m looking hard at replacing factory speakers with all Focals.
    Gonna have my local audio shop install it. They quoted me for the following;

    2 x JL TW3-D4 sub woofers $550
    1 x Audio Control LC1.1500 ( subs) $700
    1 x Audio Control LC1.1200 (speakers) $600
    1 x Audio Control ACR1 bass knob $ 70
    1 x Tundra Dual 10” sub box $ 150

speakers - Infinity Kappa Component $250
Focal - Get him a model and he’ll price it.

I’ve used this shop multiple times in the past, their workmanship is 7/10 but pricing is 10/10

I just upgraded Head unit to a spiffy Kenwood DDX 9907XR.

I just want to do this once, no effing around or buyer remorse on speakers.
So Tundras.com. Please recommend something in the $250-$350 (per set) range.

    Thanks in advance.

Crutchfield has the PS 165FX discounted but they're still about a $100 over your range. That's what I'm going to order.

I originally ordered 2 sets of the FX series, the seller mistakenly sent me one FE and one FX, I didn't want the hassle of re shipping and waiting so he made the price correction and I just kept them, besides, the rears are really not needed anyways. But they sure sound good. Glad I got FOCAL

Thanks. I ordered two sets of the FX’s today. There was a price drop that made them cheaper than the FE.
I’m trying to decide on sound deadening material now. I see a lot use dynamat but there’s so many choices. May go with the stinger roadkill. Figure I might as well add it when I change the speakers.

Did you have to make a speaker mount for the rears or did you use the factory mounts?

This is my plan to do. I told them I want an overall better FULL sound without installing a subwoofer. I have enough knock in my other car.

I never hear mention of CDT. Good to know someone else runs them too. I sort of put together a component system using ES-06 s in the front doors with ES-1200iS tweeters for the sail panels, and EX-550i crossovers. I ended up selling tweeters before I got them installed so I need to come up with something else at some point. And in the back doors I have HD-6 mids.

The only mids I would compare the CDTs too are a pair of Morels I had 18 years ago. The CDTs can take serious power and never miss a beat. They are built like tanks and I proudly run them and recommend them to everybody. I’m running the CL-632 up front.

I need to find a shop in the SoCal area who knows Tundras (or at least Toyotas) and can do this for me. @Lightning_Lad , you mentioned your shop in Orange County is a 7/10 for installation. I'm looking more for a 9/10 or 10/10, just because I'm super picky. I'd prefer just to replace the factory speakers (I don't have JBL system), and don't really want a subwoofer. I just want much better sound than what I get stock. Does anyone know any good install shops in Los Angeles? Every one I've been to in the past seems pretty low rent and very questionable to the point where I wouldn't feel comfortable with them taking my truck apart and getting into the wiring. I need someone who knows what they are doing and will do it right. Even if I have to pay a bit more.

Audio Dreams in La Verne i was very impressed with. I told them I was looking for CLean and Crisp sound, Solid low bass and if someone looks in my truck it appears as if I dont have anything in there. I opted out of a custom build for amps under the rear seats and went with to smaller amps under Driver and Passenger. You can see if you bend down to look. I had all speakers except center dash changed out. No plastic damage and no interior damage. Sounds Super clean, However I want the center speaker changed now.

    Focal RCX 165

Thanks for the referral. I was looking online at the Focal IS TOY 690 and IC TOY 165, which are supposed to be plug & play replacements for the door speakers. But then I start reading the forum and people are saying that you need an amp (or amps plural).

I will look up Audio Dreams. Thanks again.

Just installed a pair of focal ic690's, and a set if kenwood kfc x2c's in the dash. Disconnected the center. Rear doors I gotta order yet, but going to do the focal ic165 set.
Even on the stock amp, its like night and day. Definitely needs an amp to get the most from them..the high end is a little up front, but nothing a little eq cant sort out on a dsp.

Eta: I also applied some kilmat to the doors. Good stuff.

Pricey, but worth it. Im at the point in my life that I would rather spend money on good gear than live with stock or just get something that is "passable" if you kniw what I mean.

I realize this an old post, but I saw you're using Focal KRX2 components. Did you have any issues with fitment? Do they clear the windows fine? Which spacer/bracket did you use?

I'm planning on running the set I have in my truck. Wasn't sure if they'd fit, though. Thanks!

I do have spacer under them, they fit fine in the factory locations. I don't have the specifics but if you call Bryant at Frisco Audio & Tint 214-872-4100, he could probably answer your questions.
