06 Tundra Rear Passenger Shock Removal

I am trying to replace my rear shocks, but I cannot for the life of me get the top shock nut off. The entire shock rod just spins when I try to loosen it, same on the new shocks. I tried holding it with vice grips and then loosening it but it's not happening. Soaked in wd40 and waited, still no luck. It's very frustrating. Am I missing something? All of what I read before made it sound like a simple thing to replace the shocks.
The rear passenger is giving me loads of trouble getting to the top nut with enough leverage to loosen it. Please help.

I'm having trouble remembering what I did about the shock rod spinning but I didn't have any trouble.

I've shared this multiple times now but I'll throw it out there again. This tool made the rear shock replacement a breeze.
