My sister lives in Montreal and my wife and I might take a drive up with our kids. Drop them with her and spend a night in Quebec City. I've never been, but she's a French teacher and has been there in the past. She's worried about taking the truck and being able to get around/park. Is this a valid concern, or will it be easy enough? We rented a mini van this past fall when we took my parents with us to visit Montreal, and i'll admit, it was a little tough to street-park downtown. Wife says Quebec will be way worse...

Not sure if you left already. I used to live in Montreal, and occasionally went to Quebec City. From what I recall, parking can be a bit tight there, but not unlike any large city. When I went there, I usually drove a compact car (Corolla) and had no trouble parking. But, people drive full size cars, trucks, vans, etc, so it's not impossible. Given the choice, I prefer not to drive or park in any downtown area, but I have in my Tundra, occasionally towing a trailer. Not much fun. If I were you, I'd do a Google street view of some of the areas you might visit and see how it looks for street parking or if there are any parking lots. I'd say the further away from downtown, the better, but you probably want to go downtown where all of the touristy things are.

That being said, I wouldn't shy away from going there with a Tundra as I'm sure lots of people go there with full size pickups, but it's not the ideal vehicle for a big city. Montreal and Quebec City, as you may have noticed, have a more European flair, and the older parts even more so, and people tend to drive compact cars a lot there. If you find a good, central place to park (or maybe leave your truck at the hotel), see if you can take a taxi, Uber, public transit, etc, or walk. Not sure how open places will be, as the province of Quebec is hit quite hard with COVID-19 though I think Montreal has it the worst. Bon voyage!

thanks for the heads up - we haven't left yet, and dont know when we'll be able to. Even if they open the border, there wouldn't be much to do yet. If/when we do go, i'll probably try to find a central parking lot and walk/public transit the rest of the way. thanks.

Cool, if you make it out there, I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. Quebec City (at least downtown) has a really old, historic feel to it, because it is such an old city. Kind of makes you feel like you're visiting an old European city, but with its own unique flare. With this COVID pandemic there's not much traveling going on this summer, so you may not make it out there right now. But, maybe next summer. Yeah, if you're in the US, you'll need to wait until the border opens up again to non-essential travel. I'm waiting on that too, from the Canadian side so I can go to the US again.

Or if you're into winter activities, Quebec City has got a great winter carnival each year, hopefully by February 2021 the pandemic will be settled enough that they can still run it. I don't particularly enjoy cold, winter weather, ice, snow, winter driving, etc, but lots of people like it.
