I have a Soldier who's from Texas, we live in New York. Texas requires a front license plate. His vehicle is registered and plated in Texas. Can he be written a ticket in another state other than Texas, NY in this case, for not having a front license plate? Do tell.

Technically, yes a ticket could be issued. The regulations of the state that the vehicle is registered in apply to the vehicle, not the jurisdiction of where it’s currently being driven.
However, not at all likely as most LEO’s are only familiar with local laws and regulations. Plus, most minor violations are “fix-it” tickets.

Yes, unless the vehicle is displaying the front plate like Texas is requiring.

Pa resident (one plate) and I have driven my entire of age life in NY, NJ and Md without a problem. I think it may be unconstitutional for two plate states to have an issue with a one plater (full faith and credit maybe).

If he is running one rear plate and Tx requires a front. Pretty easy it’s is a non moving violation and he could be pulled over and ticketed. Or at a minimum asked where his front tag is?

Most of my brother Popo’s have bigger fish to fry. ;)

Not if he drives a black Tundra. Cops can't keep up.

I was stationed in MS while my car was registered in Texas. I took my front plate off once I got there.
It definitely got mentioned to me by cops during dui checkpoints and whatnot. And sometimes even the rentacops at the gate would say something. But I never got a ticket for it.
One of those things that could be enforced depending on the mood of the officer.

I had a C6 Corvette, and the front license plate mounts right on the pointed nose. Absolutely ruins the looks of the car. I never mounted it, but I did keep it and the mounting bracket in the trunk in case I was asked. It never came up.

In the years I owned the car, I was stopped only once by the THP for a "welfare check" (I think it was some a-hole exercising his 411 privileges). The patrolman gave me a warning, but mentioned nothing about the lack of a front plate. While it is an old law that you have two plates in Texas, I have never seen it enforced rigorously.

I was on a really small base in Gulfport MS. The civilian guards acted so high and mighty. You would have thought the nuclear codes were hidden on that base.

I have heard years ago, ‘put on however many plates the State sends you’. If they send 2, put 2 on, if they send you one, put it on the rear.

If military, in another State, that ID usually covers you. I stayed a MI resident my 8.5 years active duty. My vehicles were plated in various States as I moved around.

One you move, and out of the military, most States want/require you to plate your vehicle in the state of residency, 30 days, whatever.

Somewhat related, WI doesn’t require a trailer plate if under 3000 lbs. I’ve towed my unplated trailer all over, never been stopped. I just put on what they send, the two or the one plate, simple.
