Anyone know how many quarts I need for a full brake flush? I have techstream tools and will activate the ABS actuator to get it out also if that makes any difference.

    Thanks in advance

IIRC, I always used at least one quart for a good thorough flush on the old style (pre ABS) brake system. I haven't done my Tundra brakes yet (getting close to time), but I would buy at least two quarts.

Maybe someone with experience will tune in with a better answer. Since brake fluid containers are sealed with foil, you shouldn't have any problem taking unused fluid back to the store if the seal is unbroken. BTW, good technique using Techstream and activating the ABS. I still wouldn't let the MC run dry if I were you...lots of headaches with ABS when that happens, even with Techstream.

Just did it this afternoon using my motiv pressure bleeder! Just in case everyone ever do it themselves. It’s a quart and a half, but the pressure bleeder tube doesn’t reach all the way to the bottom so you end up using 2 quarts. If you did the traditional 2 person or vacuum bleeding a quart and a half would probably do it.

I also found out why the the service manual said to do it from closest to farthest vs the convention of doing it first with further to closest. It seems when you turn on the ABS actuator you get the dirtiest of the fluid first, so it’ll flow the shortest distance first rather the longest distance, that’s my suspicion.

Its been 2 years since I replaced my fluid and it’s definitely dirty.

At every oil change or less, if you are hand washing it or whatever, just use a baster, siphon it out of mc and then refill it. Great way to keep fresh fluid circulation.

the problem with that is you can’t really get much. That stupid filter blocks you from getting much. Not sure how you get out that filter? I tried a few times to no avail.
