The welder is currently setup for gas with 3/4 spool of wire I have a supplier right next to my engineering firm so wouldn't be a problem to pick some up. I also only have $8.95 in this welder for the rectifier so I don't mind getting the gas just to practice since I don't really have any money in the welder. Ive ran stick welders in the past on some odd and end stuff and in high school shop class just haven't done any welding since then. Thanks for the tips though I will definitely look into it. Gonna practice up to a project of a copy of the defiant light bar I have on my 03 4runner.

Awesome! I love hearing about anyone getting into welding. With the mig process it's all about set-up. Once you dial up your voltage and wire speed, it's technique from there. Rule of thumb, anytime you increase your wire speed increase your voltage, same applies for lowering. Post some pics of your welds when you can:thumbsup:

I definitely will! I’m also in the start of a house build so that’s gonna take most of my spare time up except on rainy days till I get it dried in. After that I’m gonna see what I can fab up!

Hey guys, wanted to share my experience buying a new welder recently. I was gonna get a cheap harbor freight welder for my bumper, but I decided to check Amazon. Picked up a model called a Yeswelder 205ds.
Its 110 and 220. Does gas and gasless mig, lift tig, and stick. Takes 2 and 10lb rolls of wire. Just welded up my entire bumper using 110v mig with 75/25 mix gas. never tripped the breaker and had great penetration on 3/16 steel. Had to turn it down a hair too. I can only imagine what it'll do on 220v. Has great reviews across the board and haven't read really anything negative on it. Its worth a look. Got it on sale for $315 on black friday. Even has an induction setting. Really great little machine. Comes with the mig gun, a decent ground clamp, and electrode holder for stick.20201208_120100.jpg

Not bad at all. Nice blend @ the toes. Get ya some anti-spatter spray for the gun. It will help out with the spatter.

I am impressed with the ventilation set-up. How do you like your Everlast Unit, I have always been a Miller guy when it comes to tig, and Lincoln when it comes to mig. You have a plasma cutter I hope:D

The Everlast has been great, no problems what so ever, I got the watercooler package with it which is pretty "cool", running Superflex CK WW torches, they are amazing. That Miller 255 is a new pulse MIG which is really cool, hardly any spatter, it has to run 90/10 gas though. No plasma yet, but I do have a really nice Rapid Air system that goes all around the shop. The evac system is just a 6" - 25' flex line that goes to a 6" air mover the pot growers use and it dumps outside, the whole evac cost less that $200 and I use it all the time.

Nice set up. That water cooled will come in handy on them aluminum jobs. You definitely want a plasma cutter. Thermodynamics makes the best one imop. It's a must have if your working with ferrous snd nonferrous metals.

Let's see some of them welds :welder:

Anyone here use a suede/leather welding bib? Sort of like an apron but this one has the front half of the legs with buckle/straps. Just ordered these. Fit is great, seem like they provide great protection versus burn holes in all of my pants, but was wondering how much I'll be sweating my balls off...I live in Santa Clarita, CA (north LA County) and it's hot AF here from May-Sept.

I have a sleeves that are made around that stuff and they're pretty awesome. I like them better than the heavier duty fabric/jeans sleeves I also have which those ones I do get really hot in, the leather seems to run cooler. I also have a full body jumpsuit if shit is getting gnarly (like laying under something and grinding a ton of shit) but it's not leather.

It's hot AF here too so I only suit up with the leathers if I'm running the MIG, and 10/10 I'm in shorts and a tshirt.

Yeah, I bought these because of the protection and the back is completely open, so I don't just bake in them. I have a couple projects this weekend, and I've considered making my own steel bumpers. Thus, the need for something other than a few pairs of pants to catch on fire!

Love welding! Have welded everything from shelves to vintage kitchen utensils repairs to giant 2” thick steal slabs for things like those ugly wind towers, etc. Would love to do a little more structural to get up to speed for when we build our house :D Tig, Mig, Flux, Stick, sub Arc, I love it all! My only regret is putting it off until my 30s when I should have learned in my teens. Looking forward to seeing what y’all post in this thread.

The DREAM one day is to build my own shop and go back to working for me and only me. Wife and I just need to stop moving once a year… ha. We shall see if that takes 1 more year or a dozen!

    Howdy, all :)
