Well well well, now that I'm here, I guess I'll make a build thread.

Here's the skinny, I'm 30 now, have an amazing wife and beautiful daughter. I've had 32 cars as I usually get bored after 6 month and end up flipping them. I've always had 2 cars (3 since being married). Usually something fast on the street, and big for the trails. However, the last few years I've cared less about my cars, and more about my family. Most recently I've had a 1999 Honda Accord and a 1990 Ford F-150. Loved both of them, but basically wanted to slam them together (i.e. more room and a truck).

Last year we traded my wifes 2001 4Runner for a Sequoia and absolutely love it. So i started the search for a 4-door Tundra.

For months I looked all over the country for a 4-door 4wd Tundra with no rust. Let me tell you, they are either a) rare or b) not cheap.

Eventually I settled on a local Tundra that has 281k miles, but one owner and was dealer serviced every 10k verified by Carfax. I threw down $5,500 for it and couldn't be happier.

Attached is a picture of me meeting the guy in a Home Depot parking lot.

    Personally, I didn't want/need a topper.

So I quickly sold it for $300. Come to find out, I could have gotten more, but I was glad to get rid of it.

    IMG_6810.jpg
    IMG_6801.jpg

It also came with an extra set of wheels/tires from what looks like a Sequoia. I wasn't going to use them, so I sold those the same day for $200.

Bringing my cost of the truck down to $5,000.

After driving on the freeway I realized the rotors were terrible.

So I went to Autozone and picked up the nicest ones they had in stock, as well as some new brake pads.

Friend and I put them in the night I bought it.

I will say, the old rotors were frozen on and took some POWER of knock off. Eventually I used a 10ft 2x6 I had laying around to knock them off.

$180 later and the truck rides smooooooth.

The wheels were in terrible shape. I thought about trying to find new ones quickly, but as I'm trying to keep my cost down, I decided to spend the time sanding, wire brush, and painting them.

Cost: $0. Had everything on hand.

Now the absolute worst part of this truck.

The last few years the owner had it he used it as a cabin truck in the mountains and for hunting. Needless to say, he clearly didn't care about running into brush, trees, etc.

    IMG_6811.jpg

After talking to multiple friends and a few detailers, it sounds like its not worth it to try and buff out. First because the cost would be anywhere from $500-$1,500 to get it right, and second because the paint is old (original) and thin it would likely cause it to fade faster.

So instead I'm trying a little of this stuff... Had it in my Garage from 10 years ago. Maybe its working. I figured I would get a new bottle soon and try it again. Worth the try for $10.

Hard to tell in the pictures, but I think its helping? Who knows.

Had the bed box left over from my other truck.

had to drill into the bed sides, but it’s solid and not going anywhere.

    drill. Paint. Bolt.

I love seeing people take high mileage Tundra's and make them look good again. Nice work. I'm confident you could get that paint looking a lot better and it sounds like you're already on the right track.

Today was my first fill up.
    Got 13.8mpg.

I did not buy the truck for mpg, obviously, but that still seems low.

I’m sure it’ll get a little better. Spent a lot of time idling and driving hard the last week.

Today I gave it a good wax.
Helped shine it a little, but mostly it will help keep the paint decent.

Also added LED bulbs to the fogs.
    LEDs to the reverse lights.
and LEDs to the cargo lamps.

won’t know if they help until tonight.

    waiting for interior LED kit.

350k is nothing for these trucks.

That's on the lower side for a stock truck. I know you said it's been dealer serviced but what does that mean? If you aren't sure what's been done I'd start by changing ALL the fluids. New spark plugs and air filter might help too.

Ya yes. I did just do the air filter and it was quite dirty.

Carfax shows he was at the dealer just about every 10k. So it has been taken care of.

I think I just floored it a litttttttle too much this tome around. :)

Looks good man! Do you mind telling me what paint you used on your wheels and what LEDs you put in your reverse lights? They look really good.

paint was just wheel paint from the parts store. I think it’s dupi-color.

LEDs are these for cargo lights and reverse lights.

You scored on that price! Congrats and a great looking truck!

My MPG was in the 13's until I cleaned the throttle body and MAF, now I'm high 14 to 15.

Interesting. Maybe I’ll jump into that.

is the MAF the one attached to the air filter Intake tube?

Interior LEDs are totally worth it.

however, I do wish the lights in the front would go on when you open the door, but whatever.

Yep, just make sure to use the MAF cleaner. Most stores have a little two pack of throttle body and MAF cleaner

it was scary wet sanding my truck, but holy shit it came out perfect.

Today I got some LEDs from super bright led.com and added them to the door.

I just tapped them into the door light so that they turn on when you open the door.

hard to tell in the pictures, but it adds a lot of light to the ground when you open the door.

totally worth the $6 in LEDs and about 20 minutes to install.

THe original owner put a clear bra on my truck before it ever left Toyota.

As you can imagine, a 16 year old bra is cracked, yellow, and ugly.

I've been slowly but surely tearing away at it, but hardly getting anywhere.

I stumbled upon a Pinstripe Eraser or a 3M eraser, basically a big rubber eraser wheel that you can put in your drill.

Worked like a charm. Got that dumb clear bra off.
