Sounds like they need a hobby haha. But in all seriousness, this is bang on, exactly how my mother in law is with fire pits.

I still rock fires when she visits

My mom hates fire pits in the city but she has asthma so can't really blame her for that. She's always the first to suggest we light a fire when we're out camping, though.

I can understand the asthma piece for sure. If I knew one of my neighbors had asthma and it effected them I totally would change my tune. The in-law is just being whiny is all haha

Having good neighbors is the key to a happy life. We get to burn brush here in early Spring, and our neighborhood is basically ablaze once it warms up a bit. We all get together and drink some cold beers as the smoke and ashes that spreads for miles indicates that Winter is over.

It’s supposed to make the wine “breathe” when pouring. My wife runs the wine section :) I run the beer and JD section.

Yeah it’s my in laws house and I helped them put the fire pit in. Not a bad place to sit and watch a little fire.

Does anybody have experience with cast iron fire pits? Do you have any recommendations on a cast iron fire pit? Wife and I are looking for something we can move to our driveway and sit around on the cooler nights.

I have a big slate fire pit, but for portability and a quick fire for S’mores, etc..Solo Stove is a good option. AA71689F-547B-45B7-8164-9372A6ACE3F7.jpg

Check out SS firepits. Ive delivered several of these over the last year and they are super nice IMO. If we don’t build a rock pit or fireplace I am definitely buying one of these. Most customers ask me to help them take it off the pallet and it’s usually wife that helps. So I would say they are easily portable and something your wife could help move

Saw a solo stove at a neighbor's house and thought it was cool. About shat my pants when i saw how much they cost. Seems like the next 'yeti' product that you need to be seen with. Anywho, not sure if this has been posted on this thread yet, but shortly thereafter, my top loader washing machine broke, so i cobbled together my own "solo stove". Burns crazy hot. Might try to paint with some high-temp flat black paint. firepit 1.jpg firepit 2.jpg

Does anyone know what gauge or thickness the standard, provincial and state park, fire pits are?

I'm looking to acquire or have made, one of the square ones with the grate/hinged top.

Someone online has one and said his are 10ga and he has supplied many campgrounds....but 10ga is roughly 1/8" thick. I was thinking they were more 1/4" to sit out all year in the rain and snow.

I built some for the BC Forest Service years ago. They were 3/16". 1/4" would be even better.

    Thanks! That helps a lot.

1/8" seems too thin and disposable for our Canadian climate.

No problem! The only time I'd consider 1/8" would be for a small propane firepit or cooking grille that won't be exposed to really high heats and/or left in the elements year round.
