What Other Vehicle Were You Considering And Why Did You Buy Your Pro?

I was wondering what other vehicle were you all looking at before you ended up buying your Tundra TRD Pro?

For me, I was looking long and hard at the 2020 Ford Explorer ST.
Yup, I know that it's not a pickup-- but I was driving a 2014 4Runner Limited at the time. The 4Runner was a nice SUV but the V-6 engine was far from inspiring. Something inside my head just kept whispering "Get a V-8". The Explorer ST with the twin turbos had the horsepower but didn't feel or sound like a straight V-8 & the uncertain long term reliability of turbos had me uncertain about pulling the trigger. I thought about the F150 but I really wanted to stick with Toyota reliability and frankly, you just see way too many F150's on the road today (everyone and their mom has one).

At the end of February 2020, I was browsing Toyota's website and found my white 2019 PRO at a dealership. It was turned in by a Toyota executive with just under 5,000 miles on her. The executive had ordered it with some of the "goodies" that I would have put on the truck and I got a great deal on it along with the 8 year bumper to bumper warranty since I argued that I would be taking a used truck off their hands at the end of the month. Been happy with my decision and glad that I listened to the voices in my head...

Not a Pro, but this is my Tundra story. I was actually looking at a Hummer H3. I lived 3.5 hours from dealership. They promised to hold it until me and the wife got down there, pre approval and everything done. Guess what? 2.5 hours into the drive I get the call and an apology that they sold the vehicle. I jumped on the phone to see if my bro-in-law had anything (he owned Claremont Toyota at the time, sold it actually a month ago) and of course after seeing the Tundra, I was glad they sold the H3. Never really wanted a truck, but wouldn’t give it up for the world now. Plus got a smokin’ deal with extended warranty...can’t even tell you how much we walked away paying for our 2017 CM.A6BA4B81-9423-46DE-9ECF-E19D1B1F61F8.jpg Night we bought it.

Nice transformation dude. I don't have one of these stories. I searched for my PRO, found it, went and bought it, period, the end.

I had a 2008 blue tundra that went 200k miles without a single trip to the shop. I planned to buy a Raptor, but 2 of the guys at my office bought Raptors right before i was planning on buying and when they released the voodoo blue 2019, I went and ordered it that day. 40k into my new blue tundra and still no trips to the shop. I've spent some significant time off roading with the family and haven't regretted saving $20k on my, much more unique truck yet. In East Dallas (Rockwall) i bet I pass 10-20 raptors per day. I know one other guy with a Pro, and its not voodoo blue.

I had a 2018 Taco DCSB TRDOR before. It was a beautiful truck, but I could not deal with the power train. Considered a 2019 GMC AT4, but found a Pro Tundra that was about $5 k less. Bought it after a short test drive. No regrets.

Same here dude. Drove Tacoma's for 20 years. My last was a 2015 TRD OR with the 3.5 LT and 6 Spd Auto. Loved the truck, but it would not pull a greasy string out of a gnats ass. My 2005 with the 4.0 had tons of power. So happy I made the jump to the Tundra Pro.

That engine/trans combo in the 3rd gen Taco is one of the worst ever put in a truck IMO.

I have to tell you that the fact that you don't see a lot of PROs on the road was one of the things that liked about my truck. Always get those people looking at the truck trying to see what it is. I don't think F150 drivers get those kind of looks... LOL

The 5.7L and PRO exhaust is the perfect combination-- heaven to the ears! Worth every cent I spend on gas. :burnrubber:

Didn’t look for anything else. Had a 2015 SR5 and it was great but the small gas tank annoyed me. Searched for a 2017 so I would have the bigger tank but none of the TSS stuff that came after and the best color, cement

The rumble of that tuned exhaust never gets old. Whenever my father in-law rides with me he says, "damn that sounds good".

Love that 38 gal fuel tank. The Cement color would have been my 2nd choice over Super White, nice color. Reminds me of Primer.

I had a 2005, and 2016. Was going to get 350 SRW, but after multiple research, at the end of the day, Toyota Tundra reliability record and 10yrs cost of ownership. I went with the base sr5 4x4 and started upgrading it within a week. I did not like the idea of paying interest rates on Pro upgrades.

I don't mean any disrespect by this but could you say more about how and why you were cross shopping a one ton against a half ton?

I live in a small town. I’m pretty sure mine is one of 2 Pros around here. When I went on vacation last week I got to see a few more of them in the wild. Ended up right behind a QS one pulling into the beach.

I wanted a Tundra since I graduated college in 2009, but used ones were too expensive. Had a 2009 Sierra for awhile and I had a 93, which was a work horse. Definitely not built the same. I was considering a new Raptor, but with my experience with my Focus RS I will never buy a Ford or a turbo vehicle again. A used v8 Raptor would have been an option, but I settled on Toyota as a brand. Got the 2020 Pro because I saw the writing on the wall for the v8.

I was driving a 2012 RAM Laramie Longhorn previously. I was starting to experience the typical issues you see with any RAM.

I was strongly considering a Raptor, but couldn't justify the price tag. Believe it or not, I found this Forum and saw some pictures of TRD Pro's and thought "Damn, that's a great looking truck."
I had also worked at Toyota when I was a teenager and knew about the incredible reliability you get from a Toyota.

Next day I drove to the dealership, there was 1 blacked-out Tundra TRD Pro in stock and the only one in a 40 mile radius of me. The rest was history.

Almost bought a raptor but didn't want an eco boost. If the 6.2L was still available in the Ford I would have bought that.

Had an F150 back in 2000, went back into cars due to the mileage, come 2019 wife wants to get a camper. Honda Accord ain’t going to work. Test drove the Silverado, Ram 1500 and ford F150. Really liked the Ram and how it drove but something in the back of my head kept saying tranny will need to be replaced within 60k miles. Test drove the F150 but it felt tinny, then I heard horror stories about replacement costs for aluminum. Left that dealer to go to the Toyota and had hopes for a 1794 brown color edition but it got sold 30 minutes prior. Salesman then showed me the silver sky limited. Haven’t been able to take the smile off my face since.

Before the tundra I owned a 2012 mitsubishi evo x and an infinity g35x. I almost bought a jeeo wrangler rubicon 2017 and checked out the tundra cause I always loved the 3rd gen look. Test drove a platinum crewmax fell in love with interior space. Im 6’3” and there was so much room for activities. When I returned to the lot ordered the 17 pro and never looked back!
