Thank you for the instructions, and thanks to everyone for these posts. I bought the OEM kit, it does indeed work on a 2016 Crewmax LTD. Pretty easy installation. I made a couple mistakes, but got 'er done.

One recommendation - pay attention to the torque specs. The are not ft-lbs... really no need to complicate things by over-torquing like this idiot did.

Also - in the pax foot compartment, I already had wires in the hole, so the fitting did not work. I simply lined everything up, cut the new through-compartment gasket to allow the other wire, then taped over all of it with aluminum tape I have lying around (use it to tape weights to track wheels).

Sealed-up fine without the tape, but good added measure.

I accidentally ran the connector wire across the brake lines, had to disconnect and re-run it all, but I had not zip-tied anything yet thankfully.

Works perfectly, very quiet - barely louder than a door. Pretty killer mod for $134 from the dealer online.

Glad everything worked out, do you happen to have bed lighting? It seems people with bed lights happen to already have a wire in that same grommet. Also just a random tip probably no one would agree with but put away the torque wrench for non torque sensitive things like this, it's really not necessary and as long as you're not someone prone to over tightening things just go with the German torque of "gutentight" and you'll be fine.

Yes, have the bed lights, that must be it.

Completely agree on the torque wrench - I really only use it for torquing wheels, oil, not much else. I saw the spec and wondered why it mattered, but then over-torqued it. Not again! I actually snapped the bolt, had to drill it out. Thankfully in my piles of random parts I found a decent match, used locktite and a lock washer and got it to seat nicely.

The kit comes with the wiring harnesses. Everything is plug and play, no splicing

Finally got around to installing the OEM tailgate lock kit today, was easier then I expected based on the instructions. This might actually be a case where the instructions were too detailed but I guess better than not enough.
A couple parts in the instructions I didn’t really follow or had questions on:
1.) Removing the heat shield? Maybe I screwed something up but I didn’t find it necessary to remove any of the heat shields.
    2. Zip ties can wait until the end. Personally I found it easier to make sure I ran the wires the correct route and had everything hooked up correctly before I went back and zip tied everything.
    3. The wire grommet in the floor and the 4 O’clock position? I think I did this correctly but seating the wire grommet in this position seemed awkward and made the wire make an unnecessary turn.

I feel like the whole under the truck section could be summarized by “follow the other wire line and avoid the heat shields, exhaust and brake lines.”

All and all the OEM kit is nice and worth the $130ish to buy and install yourself instead of paying a dealer $600+ to install it. It’s not loud as I’ve heard some complaints about the popnlock kit that everyone used before the OEM kit came out.
Ignoring the fact that it’s ridiculous that in 2020 this isn’t a standard feature on a 45k truck but oh well now I can lock my tailgate with the click of a button so I’m happy.

Sorry for the necromancy of the thread. Thanks for the post. I was just going to have the local dealer do it as well, I am always short on time but they wanted $900 in labor. I am going to have a friend help me install once I order it.

I doubt it since the bulk of the cost is in the wiring. I just received the OEM kit and the actuator is only a minor part of the kit.

    Seriously, $900 labor! What a rip off. It's at most a 2hr job...even for a novice.

I’m sure several others have said it....

My 2019 TRD PRO came with led lights inside the bed as well as auto locking tailgate(with the cab doors) from the factory. I recently traded it in for the 2020 TRD PRO basically to get the upgraded stereo and push to start... and the bed has the same light in the bed from the factory; however, the tailgate did not come with the auto locking feature... most likely I’ll have them add it, or do it myself.

Having it done on my truck, a tech that has done this more than once will spend an hour or less on this install, especially since they have a lift. $900 is theft but what else is new from stealerships.

Digging this up again. Does the OEM kit work with factory key fob?

Yes, the oem kit works with factory key fob. Install took about 1.5 hrs while watching YouTube videos to double check I was doing things correctly

Yes it does. Press “unlock” once and only the drivers door is unlocked. Press twice and the drivers door, passenger door/all doors and the tailgate unlock.

Press “lock” once and everything locks

    Super easy to install.

Last time I was at the dealer getting service I got a quote on the dual TRD exhaust. He printed me a sheet that was applicable to my VIN with every OEM option price and instal rate.

Can you post that price list?

Like to see the part prices as well as the installed price. I paid $129.41 plus sales tax for the OE Remote Tailgate Lock from my dealership.

Did the install myself since it’s such an easy “do it yourself” modification!

I’ll be honest, I don’t remember if that $600 price was what I got from my dealer or I read it somewhere else on this site.
Either way I wasn’t paying it and the diy self install was worth it.
