    see pics. Mounted the strip

connecting the 5 wires from the light strip into the 7-pin truck harness, but nothing.

when I plug the strip harness into the tow 4-pin, it works.

    Green to Green
    Yellow to a yellow
    Blue to Black

Glad you got it figured out. But, please, get rid of the electrical tape. You are asking for corrosion and electrical issues.
If you cannot solder and heat shrink the wiring, get a can of plastidip type rubberized dip (dip type, not spray). Get the wires wrapped as tight as possible and use something to coat the exposed wiring with the rubber. Put a couple coats on each joint with enough time to set in between. Do not pull or twist the wiring around until the first coat fully cures to prevent the joints from coming loose.

Great advise and taken under advisement. Will make the changes as soon as possible. will go the soldering route since I have that in abundance.

Which tailgate light strip did you use? Pics? I've been considering one but haven't decided if I want to or not

    Buddy gave it to me.

    58 inches (of light)
    3-rows

reverse on bottom row - clear
Middle is Running turn signal (similar to mustang)
Top is brake, lights in. Dim running, but Bright when braking.
