So I need to hit the trails and I'd like to do it with some of you all. Would be nice to get a small group together and have a day trip out to a lake or something. I was thinking either the weekend of 7/18 or 7/25. I'm new to the area, so I know only the basics. My tires are almost done, so I'd like to keep it simple for now.

Please tag anyone else I missed.

    UPDATE:

    Date: 7/25
    Meet time 8:00am
Meet spot: Kum & Go 18465 W Colfax Ave, Golden, CO 80401

    UPDATE 2:

Communications will be on MURS Frequency Green dot, 154.600mhz, pending traffic at the location. We'll move to Blue Dot (154.570mhz) if Green is too busy. You can get an inexpensive HAM radio on Amazon. DO NOT TRANSMIT ON LICENSE REQUIRED FREQUENCIES WITHOUT A HAM LICENSE. The fines are immense and we will be on patrolled land. Don't step on official frequencies.

    Attendees:

We'll be heading out via 75 to the Idaho Springs area. Plan right now is to meet at 8am at the Kum & Go in Golden off the 75. People can grab fuel, snacks, etc, but please come as prepared as possible. I'd like to leave before 8:30. It's about another 1.5 hours to the trailhead.

We will be doing Yankee Hill to Central City.

    @Grumpy Uncle

I am not available the weekend of the 18th; will be out camping by Lake George. So maybe if wheeling in that area I could join. If not, the weekend of the 25th will be better for me.

based on what i'm about to pay stevinson for a few service items, as well as a few other items that have popped up today, the truck will be driveway bound for the foreseeable future.

Could you throw up some suggestions on trails?

I know myself and @Jbehredt are on stock suspension right now. He's in a Pro, but all I've got at the moment are some almost dead KO2s.

pole hill in estes is super mellow. mostly hard pack dirt as the rocky section is right at the beginning. has a few great spots for parking/hanging/picnic/camp. i usually go out there during the week so, may or may not be crowded on a weekend.

depending on how far you want to drive, lost park would also be easy on the tires/suspension. peru creek wouldn't be bad either but it's a pretty short out and back. hanging at the old mine for lunch isn't bad though.

    appreciate the offer.

I can look up some trails. Let me know where you want to go? Pick a spot on the map and I can look in and around that area.

I was looking at some stuff over by Idaho Springs, but I would like to go somewhere there's a lake or river to stop for lunch.

I should be able to make the 25th work depending on upcoming work plans. Keep me in the loop. Hidden Valley rd. that is near Jackson creek road and connects to Rampart range is a cool trail that stock trucks can do. Lots of fun areas to explore in this area. Some fun trials in Montezuma as well or Jefferson area near Mt Guyot on the Colorado trail.

Might want to start a PM t make it easier to track and plan this trip.

I don't have paid membership to trails Off-Road, so can someone look at the details for Wellington Lake trail by Bailey? Ends at a lake like OP said, just don't know length, difficulty, etc. I think @smslavin has a membership :boink:

Stay off Hacket Gultch. Fun trail, but unless you like being high centered and win some Colorado Pinstripes, stock full size trucks is a no bueno.

Oak Creek grade out of Canon City to Westcliffe is basically a road, but beautiful. Once in Westcliffe there’s trails south off 67, but I would stay off those.

Once in Westcliffe, head East on 96. This is an amazing drive. Often you see plenty of wildlife. Take a right on 165 and head into the mountains and stop at Bishops Castle. This is always a good time.

From there you can head out East on 165 towards Colorado City/Rye and return to Denver via I-25. Some would travel back and go to Wetmore, and head to Pueblo using 96. This takes you on the back side of Pueblo Reservoir. Another route is to take 78 (which I recommend) over Buelah Valley, then out to Pueblo.
