You were so right!! After my install, I would hear a weird poppy quality to the bass, almost like a driver was popping.... or bottoming out hard.

I remembered your comment and last weekend I pulled the doors off and switched the front speaker positions further back, now directly aligned with the speaker grill. It made a TON of difference. Thank you!

    Hey BlueBottle,

if you remove your door panels, remove the 4 screws from each adapter, and swap the right and left assemblies, you’ll align the speakers to the factory grills. The sound difference is pretty pronounced.

if I have a minute, I’ll pull the door panel and take a pic.

Ah so in other words my left adaptor should be on my right door. I guess I was too excited when I installed them lol. Are they labeled?

They are not labeled. You could also dismount the speakers from the adapters, flip the adapters so that the speaker hole is positioned further back, and reinstall the speakers, but it makes more sense to just swap assemblies.

Did the harness James provide to you fit the harness for the bigger door speaker, or fit the harness for where the tweeter plugs in? I know James is off this weekend to celebrate his wife’s birthday so I can’t get help that way. But his directions say the harness should plug into the mid range speaker.

It's for the bigger speaker. DO NOT using the wiring for the tweeter at all. I tried that and it didn't work well at all. The new tweeters which James sent me sounded horrible (weak). Tap the tweeter wiring into the larger speaker wiring, but then again I have crossovers (Hertz) for the rear doors. Maybe I did it incorrectly, but they sound great.

That’s where my confusion is. I only got two harnesses and trying to install hertz 165.3 components. The two harnesses will only plug into the truck harness that plugged into the tweeter. And am I not supposed to use the dx300 2-way box at all? Is that what you mean by not using the tweeter wires at all?

Phil, I have the CK 165L components, so I'm not sure if that's the same as 165.3? The harness(x2) James sent me could ONLY connect to the harness that goes to the bottom speaker harness. I have two crossovers for each door; one for the tweeter and one for the subwoofer. Maybe James accidently gave you the wrong harness? Sorry, I can't be more help.

Yea, it ended up being that he was out of the harnesses. But he helped me direct wire

@Flipmode I’ve got all my doors off and realized i didn’t get any speaker harnesses, front or back. Can you relay what you did to direct wire? I’m kinda dead in the water...

On mine...the plug that goes to the mid range speaker has two wires, I cut them and the one closest to the little lever to release the harness is the positive. Ran that to the positive of the inlet to the crossover and the negative as well. Then from the crossover one side goes to the Tweeter and one to the midrange. And the plug from the truck to the tweeter is not used

@Flipmode yea i dont have a crossover. I have the Hertz 170s. I was more concerned with which was + and -. So you ended up cutting out the connector and just direct to speaker. Solder or one of those slide on crimp jobs?

Yep. Just cut them and hardwire. Just make sure to remember which was closest to the release tab, as that’s positive

Thanks man, JRT actually responded last night, food poisoning and all. He's gonna send me out the harnesses today, should have them tomorrow. Customer service doesn't get much better than that. Appreciate the response tho. Guess I'll just cruise around without 3 door panels and a back seat for a couple days. My neighbor was like "hey man, sweet truck, let me check it out." I open the door and he's like WTF?!, get a good price or what? Fun times..

I’m a bit confused. I have the parallel harness that plugs into the mid and I assume you run the split to the tweeter. Then I have another harness that plugs in to the tweeter location but not sure where to connect it.

    any advice is appreciated.

I have the non jbl system. I added the sail panel tweeters. Mine came with the same. I called Tech12volts and mine (sail panel tweeters) have to be spliced in the door speaker. I had to use the the harness in your second picture. I assume your first picture is if you don’t want to use tweeters.

The first picture harness plugs into the tweeter location and the second picture plugs into the mid-bass speaker location. I was under the impression I had to run the tweeter from the mid-bass harness split.

Just did this last week. One harness is for the front doors, one is for the rears. One of them wires the tweeters to the mids, ignoring the tweeter plug. The other has the tweeters going directly back into the original plug.
Problem is I’m not a 100% which is which, but I’m almost positive the harness in the first pic is for the rear doors. I used @dspilot thread for guidance, so maybe he can tell you for sure.

One of them does (front vs rear), one doesn’t.

I have 4 harnesses of each. The first one plugs into the tweeter in the back and the second plugs into the mid.... I haven't taken apart the front doors yet to see what they plug into.

I only got two of each. I looked in my instructions and I was correct, the rear ones plug back into the oem tweeter harness. The fronts get wired to the mids.

Is there a reason I can't use the tweeter harness on the front? I have 4 of each harness.

I'm trying to remember how it all worked out. its been a while since I did this install. I only had 4 harnesses in my install kit and they were all the same. I had to splice the tweeter wires into the harness. If I remember correctly, on the back doors where you already have tweeters, you just leave the factory tweeter wiring hanging unplugged after you're done. Good luck. James is super helpful if you can't get it figured out.

I got it done... I ended up just plugging in each of the harnesses and temporarily attaching each speaker and testing it out.... Ended up just wiring each speaker to its own factory plug.
