I’m wiring up my new kenwood excelon ddx8906s unit to my ‘19 limited cc. In the Maestro wiring diagrams there are only 2 versions. Non-jbl-no amp and jbl with amp. Since I have the non-jbl WITH amp, which diagram do I use?

So do you have the non jbl with amp too? Just seems like I lost a little oomph after the install. I currently have it wired non jbl but wanted to make sure.

You are correct. Non JBL, non amp. It works fine.
I thought I lost oomph too, but you'll need to play around with the EQ, sound staging and loudbess/bass boost. Turning on the loudness really brought it to life for me. I had to compensate. For the loudness by turning the amp output down, otherwise my sub would distort.

If you compare the two wiring diagrams, the one with an amp uses the RCA cables, whereas the one without has you snip the ends of the RCA cables off. You have no use for RCA, so snip them off.

I just bought the kenwood excelon dnx997xr and will be flashing the module and installing tomorrow. I have a 2018 TRD sport crew max non JBL. How do you know if you have an amp or not?

Are you talking about the install instructions? Technically you have an amp under the passenger seat, however, for the install of the HU, you don't and will need to cut the RCAs.

Correct. When I look up flash and install instructions it says JBl, and non JBL with or without Amp. Forst time using a module so I want to make sure I do this right.

Then yes, you want to snip the ends of those 2 RCA plugs off and wire them into the harness.

Thanks! So when I go to log in and select instructions and flash, just choose non jbl without an amp correct? I appreciate the guidance! So excited to ditch the archaic stock head unit.

    100% Correct.

Install tip, remove the center speaker. You're going to have a lot of cable to shove back in. If you remove it, you can reach thru and grab the cabling and guide it in.

Mask off all the surrounding plastic, place a soft towel down on the console.

Also, the GPS and XM connections are easy to accidently swap with each other. Test them out before you button everything up. Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for all the advice! Going to place the kenwood gps antenna underneath the grill for the center speaker. Seems like a good spot and others have commented on it being a great location.

If your truck has XM, then it already has a GPS antenna. You can use the stock one.

Thanks. From what i have read, seems kenwood owner prefer the once that comes with the new head unit vs the factory antenna. Thoughts?

I too asked the same question regarding the factory Toyota GPS antenna vs. the Kenwood. Apparently, the OEM Toyota antenna does not have access to as many satellites as the Kenwood Antenna.

READ #1. on the following link:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/kenwood-dnx996xr-head-unit.51693/

Thus, I just used the Kenwood antenna and placed it under the dash center speaker grill. All good!!

My kenwood gps antenna came with a stick on metal plate that you are supposed to stick to dash first then stick the antenna to it. Did yours have this plate and did you use it in the center speaker loction?

Just use the OEM antenna. I don't know how much merit there is to one antenna getting more satellites than the other since the software of the Kenwood nor the Entune show you how many satellites they're locked on to. I've used the OEM antenna since 2015 and it's locked to pinpoint precision as soon as the radio boots. It's never been off.

Not really. If it can be proven it does indeed, lock on to more satellites, and that those extra satellites benefit me more than the pinpoint precision I already have, then I'll change my mind.

Just watch this video where Dean and Fernando explain how to do the brake bypass to your Kenwood H/U.

Idatalink harness. One video online says to just connect light green wire from kenwood harness to the ground wire.

Just watch the video that I pre-posted in my last post. Also, since you are doing the iDatalink, Dean also has a video where he shows you EXACTLY how to connect the iDatalink Toyota harness to a Kenwood H/U:

Finished my install and all works perfectly. Thanks for all the tips! The only issue I have is that my unit does not power up when I remote start. Does anyone know what I need to do to skip the power from accessory to power from the remote start?
