Just bought my first AR today at Palmetto State Armory. It's a base model 556 $699. Needs mods. Came with one 30 round magazine and I bought 3 more. Also picked up a can of 400 rounds. Also got the wife a M&p 380 Shield EZ cause she has some hand strength issues.

Next buy the lower and order all the parts to build your own. It’s an addiction.

See I don't have a clue but walking around the store waiting on the paperwork all the parts were real pricey. $699 seemed OK in today's market. Fun to buy the big can of ammo.

Congrats on the new rifle. I have some buddies at work that get pretty off the rails with their AR custom builds. I prefer to spend my money on ammo and train. AR builders tend to get like the Jeep crowd, its a dress up contest and no one actually knows how to use them. Go put that 400 rounds through it and change just what you don't like.

nauh. I always try to build for distance shooting. I’m up to eight now and in the process of an AR10 now.
You tend to learn a lot more about them when you put it together yourself.

That takes a level of patience I’ve found that I’m not capable of

Once I get more than just a lower, I need to build it yesterday

    Congrats.
I've got 2 PSA lowers in FFL jail (I was like #5400 in line for bgc yesterday) and one that will hopefully get shipped this week.

I got my first one 2 years ago, Smith & Wesson M&P. I am still amazed, little to no kick, and the accuracy out of the box. I’ve done nothing but change the grip and stock.

Congratulations on the purchase. One of the best weapon platforms to have in my opinion.

Outside of the military, a AR15 has stopped from happening what could have been deadly...twice.

No worries. I ordered three stripped lower receivers (just the receiver with no trigger/safety components in it).
Since mine were shipped, they had to go to a dealer (FFL) for the transfer and background check (bgc). Unfortunately, Oregon is backlogged and I couldn't bring the lower receivers home. Maybe I will be able to get them next week. The third one that I ordered has not shipped yet.
The reason for getting stripped lowers is to be able to build them how I want with the components I want without wasting money on a built gun just to replace parts. You can also get lowers with different designs. I ordered one with OIF (has an outline of Iraq), one OEF (has an outline of Afghanistan), and one AngryJoe AR-14.

Don't worry about asking questions, the only way to learn is to ask.
Something else you may hear is 80%. An 80% lower is a lower that has not been machined to accept the trigger group. It is NOT the same as a stripped lower.

On the rifle you got, did you also get bus (back up sights) or a scope/red dot?

Palmetto has good deals on the Holosun red dot and the Sig Romeo 5 right now...

I've been chasing a Springfield Saint Victor 7.5" AR pistol for about 2 months now. The ones on the auction site's are crazy prices right now.

If you decide on better triggers the Larue can’t be beat for the current sub-$100 price. And even at twice the price they’re still a good option.

Ok, see I'm not thinking what people in other states deal with. I decided that it was time to have more than a loaded shotgun buy the front door. I drove PSA and bought a Sig 9mm M17 two weeks ago and yesterday decided on a AR15 when I go get the wife the 380 shield EZ (this I looked into, She has hand issues). The guy at the counter said don't buy with any thing like sights because that is the first thing people bolt on or change.
    .
ps- pic for clarification, I am 99% sure PA-15 is a AR-15 just built by PSA, correct? Parts interchangeable correct?

Yes pa15 is an ar15 and parts are all basically interchangeable

Just accept as a new owner you'll spend some money on parts that you'll end up not liking but there's plenty of market to resell

Yep, PA-15 will have interchangable parts with other ARs. Palmetto changes the model number to match the design that is on the side.

Not getting one with a fixed sights allows you more options for sights. You can get "fixed", flip up, offset sights, or optics of your choice. But, something is needed.

My combination is fixed front, flip up rear and Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 scope.

Good for you, ever had rabbits ? They are like rabbits, they multiply like crazy.
Watch out for a nice drop in trigger like a POF, you can get them for 100 pretty often. Trigger and barrel are really the only things to spend good money on with these guns, everything else is just parts and most everything will interchange so it just becomes a matter of aesthetics

Don't I know! LOL They were $699 about 3 months ago... Now $1K plus. You snooze you lose in this current market. I'm either going to build one from parts, or wait out the buying frenzy and buy a tactical short barrel 9mm for now.

Congrats on the new purchase. There a a TON of aftermarket parts for ARs and a lot of them are garbage so do your research. I prefer to keep it simple, the only things you need are good iron sights, a white light and an optic, and you really don't NEED an optic. Oh and this will not be the last AR you buy
