Anyone have experience with this or opinion either way? I'd appreciate any advice you have.

No experience but I do avoid buying a rental vehicle because I assume everyone drives rental vehicles like I do. I’m also concerned about how or if rental companies maintain their fleet knowing they won’t keep vehicles more than a couple years and 25k-30k miles.

    Looking for my first
I've read some articles on the pros and cons. Here are some examples.
    https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/articles/the_pros_and_cons_of_buying_a_rental_car
    https://www.autotrader.com/car-tips/buying-car-it-ok-buy-former-rental-car-213379

I agree with you on the issue regarding how everyone that has set foot in that car has driven it. It'll be all over the board. If they car was rented 249 times, then we just had 249 different driving styles all the way from "I don't care it's a rental (and I got the insurance like Cole Trickle)," to "I'll treat it as if it were my own".

One anecdotal thing I did notice while renting from hertz was the local guy talking about how often he had to get the oil changed on the cars etc.

I guess the maintenance issue can be mitigated if they have records. That at least covers the past.

I want to make a wise decision. Hopefully, we'll get some more posts on this.

My personal opinion is simple. Never buy a rental vehicle period for any reason.

It was used hard, and treated every which way by each different renter.

They do all maintainence on them always so shouldn't be any worry their really. But they are driven a lot and hard at times.

You are always better off buying used from 1 or 2 previous owners. Vehicles will have much less abuse in most cases.

With a rental it's much more risk.

    My $.02 ymmv.

    Good luck in your search.

Ever heard the saying "Its a Rental dont be Gentle"?

I have had unfortunate "Incidents" twice in a Rental and just returned them and walked away,I always get all of the Insurance offered by the Rental Company and my Client pays for it,one of them is the one who told me that little ditty the first time too!

A lot of the Rental Companies also Lease cars though and that might be a different story really?

Usually it will say somewhere in the listing for the car in small print which life it has lead.

And like all Toyotas if you have the VIN# you can at least see any dealer service history too.

I have rented SUVs too but only Enterprise Truck Rentals will rent you anything that can Tow anymore.

Is it even that great of a deal? I heard they were selling a bunch of cars so I checked the website and prices on 4Runners didn't even seem that great.

    I dont think it is?
I found a Sequoia for a guy last year and he was determined to get one through Enterprise but I ended up getting a new one for him for close to the same money.
