Do any of you guys use, or have you used, a handheld GPS? ie. the Garmin In Reach Explorer. My SR5 doesn’t have the built in Nav and I’m wanting something to use while out on the trails without any cell service. Looking to get one since they’re only 250 bucks.

 

you could get the DUAL XGPS160 on Amazon. $125 ish and connects up to 5 devices via bluetooth so you could have your phone, tablet etc using the same GPS system. You get both US and Russian position satellites.

Your phone has a built in GPS chip and will track your position even when you are out of cell service. Download an app like GAIA gps and save the maps of the area you are exploring ahead of time. If you want something with a bigger screen you can use a tablet of choice. Make sure to use a cellular version for the built in gps chip so you don’t need to run an external unit.

This is what I do. I’m not good at it, but getting better with practice. If you buy a 5 year access to GAIA, it’s not much more than a one-year.

You can also download free maps on Google that you can overlay with your phone/ tablet’s GPS position. I’m also not good at this but it’s a Thing and, if you don’t suck at technology as much as I do*, it’s a cool, cheap option.

hi fellas! new to the forum and just saw this thread! I'm in Long Beach just got my truck about a month ago and been in the dirt a few times already. Would love to hit the trails sometime stock trd 0ffroad 4wd for now... but I still rip it like its lifted! just ordered some fox 2.5's w/dsc, and total chaos uca, going to be looking for wheels so I can really keep up!
