Alright, with covid and shelter in place, I won't be getting out to do bumper color match or detail and ppe work so phase 2 will be Audio. Everyone seems hyped about tech12volts so ordered a complete JL audio package and new headunit Kenwood DNX996XR. Spoke with James today and so far so good. Can't wait for the boxes to start coming in. Stay safe and healthy.

Phase 2 queued up and ready to go. Thanks, JRT. When I was in college I worked for my brother in the summer installing car stereos, just the simple cheap cars so nothing like this. I wasn't great at it and some of the cars would come back. We'll see how patient I can be. All of the shops in my area are closed. Maybe I'll take a stab at sound shielding the doors and rear panel. Time for DIY youtube binging. Lol.

Phase 3 will be replacing headlights, fog and tail lights. Morimoto's for the front....still deciding the rear.

finally finished phase 2 and prepped for phase 3 which is now headlights, foglights and tailights. installing JRT's kit was about 1.5 days. my brother and i didn't rush. he had his own 12volt business for 20+ yrs and had nothing but good things to say about JRT's craftsmanship. thanks man.

update on refresh phase 3: morimotos xb led headlights and led foglights.

started the process to diy color match the extension/filler panels under the headlights. had to replace because the body shop that repainted the top part of my bumper broke off the plastic guide pins, didn't tell me and plastered them back on :(. so i'm replacing them to do it right. hard to find good help.

following this great diy guide: https://www.tundras.com/threads/how...le-can-paint-tons-of-pics.51748/#post-1348898

scuffing done. planning to make good progress this weekend.

not related to the phased refresh progress...i'm also proactively refreshing a bunch of other small stuff like battery support bar and moldings on the 08.

excuse the dirt, phase 4 is next week: full paint correction, clay and ceramic pro. let's see how well they can bring back the paint after 12yrs living outside in the CA sun.

what it looks like before on roof. this side is backordered but coming soon.

    front belt moldings:

and refreshed my battery support bar to trd, finally!!!! engine bay is complete!

going to update phase 3 and call it: lights, bumpers and grill
    to include:
    • 2020 sequoia pro grill
    • morimoto xb led headlights
    • mormoto led fog lights
    • recon tail lights led dark red smoked lens
    • new extension panels (pins on old set are busted)
    • wrap bumpers in black (unless i can find salsa red)
fog lights are already in. toying with the idea to color match the grill myself via rattle can and a diy guide. have everything i need.

when it goes into detail this thursday for phase 4: paint correction, clay and ceramic pro - they won't do the front grill and headlights until i bring it back after grill is painted and had time to cure.

cr@ppy night time pic but the morimoto headlights are in. morimoto fog lights were installed a few weeks back. these headlights are great. fitment is 9/10 but not spot on. the hilux harness i bought from ebay/thailand for headlight auto-leveling works with the morimoto's! so happy to have that feature now.

sequoia pro grill should be on by this weekend and then i'll wait ~45 days or so to let it cure before hitting the whole truck with paint correction, clay, 4 layers or ceramicpro 9h and 1 layer of ceramicpro top coat. and possibly full front ppf to save whatever paint i have left.

got the headlights all leveled out and cleaned up the wiring. happy now. if you go with morimotos some, myself included, have noticed one light to be a good amount higher than the other out of box. read the instructions because you can cause issues if you do more than 3 full rotations. i adjusted both to meet in the middle.

To complete the immediate external lighting upgrades as part of phase 3, just purchased these recon's dark red smoked lens. they were about ~$150.00 cheaper at vivd racing than anyone else. i've bought from vivid before so all should be good. score!

Those look like the older 07-09 style tail lights, I don't know why so many of the LED tail lights are the older style lens. The 10-13 are wider and a bit more square on top, these are one of the few I've seen that look somewhat ok that have the 10-13 style lens:

Anyway why did you pay so much you can get those on eBay for $130?

These are the ones I got, but I didn't want LED I wanted a more factory look and just the 10-13 style. Not against LED just haven't seen any LED taillights that look good.

hey, thanks for the feedback. it's just preference for both. i actually prefer the 'older' style design. in terms of cost, overall quality is really important to me and recon seemed to have the best reviews in terms of no leaks, not falling apart, etc. also hearing from other members here on diff threads.

they missed one for the tailgate so that's coming in few days.

installed new locking ami gas door, debadged and removed the flares for the first time in 2yrs. thought it was going to be worse so happy it's not.

phase 4 thursday 7/16! paint correction, clay, ceramic and ppf. going to do full front ppf inclding wrapped bumper and rear quarter panels to protect the paint/wrap from chips and flares. considering ppf'ing the doors too.

    IMG_4086.jpg

    IMG_4092.jpg

I was on the fence about debadging but the clean look it starting to grow on me. next update probably this weekend but still need to order replacement rubber for the flares. Also in talks with bushwhacker to see if they can cover some areas they were failing.

phase 4 complete: paint correction, ceramicpro 9h/topcoat and xpel ppf full front and rear quarterpanels (10yr warranty). bushwacker is sending me new rubber for the flares under warranty so they'll go back on once it comes in. with the ppf i won't have to worry about the flares jacking up the paint anymore. woot!

    fully paint corrected. reflection!
    IMG_4149.jpg

vinyl wrapped front bumper and painted grill also covered with xpel ppf.

flares are back on over the ppf! refresh done, it's literally like a new truck. now i'm going to start building it up a bit more for small adventures, nothing crazy yet.

just ordered the rigd ultraswing mega-fit with the camping table for the full size spare. it's a dual hitch so my bike hitch rack can go in front of the tire! should be good.

got that rigd supply ultraswing mega fit with multi fit plate, front runner camping table 2.0 and wobnot for my bike. just installed and test fitted my bike. solid build, cpl of hiccups on install but nothing major. still need to install license plate lights and new backup camera which is on order. small tasks. need to road and trail test but nothing moves so far....solid after tightening everything.

just in time for upcoming ski season. i got stuck last year 200 miles away from home with a flat and no full sized spare. shops just don't carry 305/55/20 in stock so had to tow and abandon my truck at firestone, rent a car and take my kids skiing then pickup truck on way home. bs! never again.

also got a custom tire cover on order that should be here in a week or so.
