Recently installed a Bilstein 6112/5160 setup on my '17 CM.

Have not taken the truck off road yet. In the city I'm still trying to convince myself I can tell the difference from stock. I wish I could drive sections back and forth with both to clearly see the difference. Is there something I can look for that would help convince me?

One issue I did find today was at speed on the freeway in So. Cal, doing about 65/70, I hit 10 miles of road that I thought was gonna shake the silver outta my teeth. I was honestly a little disappointed as I thought this new suspension would soak it up. So bumpy and rough.

Am I off base here. what should my expectations be?

My experience with Bilstein on any vehicle is that they are really stiff. I have 5100s on my rear and they are pretty bouncy. If I have 2-300lbs in the best the ride is a lot smoother. I might swap them out for something else pretty soon.

About 2 months ago I put the Bilstein 6112/5160 shocks at top setting on my '15 CM and initially it was a bumpy ride on the freeways (also in SoCal), but it rides much better now. I think where you'll notice the improvement is offroad. Much better soaking up the rough stuff. With the factory shocks I felt pretty much everything, now it's seems planted and a more confident ride. Not that I upgraded my shocks to do this, but try taking a speed bump at 30 mph and you'll feel a difference.

Does the height setting affect the ride, how so? I have mine on top setting as well (top meaning highest lift.)

    of course it does.
the higher the spring perch the more compressed the spring is meaning a stiffer ride. i have 6112's (3rd setting) and would say by going with the top setting while you get a better performing shock you have traded plushness for lift.

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing I-10 by banning? I think no matter what truck you drive through there it's bad. Look at other trucks on same stretch and they're all bouncing along.
I have same shock set up on my 17 CM TRD 4x4. On the road it feels pretty much the same as stock. Off road they're great. Yesterday I took it on a dirt road that was about 12 miles of washboard. The bilsteins soaked it up. I currently have a f-150 for work, same stretch of road and the f-150 starts bouncing sideways on me.
About a week ago I took it down a road with some moderate sized whoops and it surprised the hell out me, never bottomed out. Prior work truck was a 2011 raptor, the suspension on my tundra is easily on par with it.

It was the 110 headed north between the 105 and 10.

Good to know, I'll test it off-road soon.
