This is a thread for us Northern California folks to post/share/setup trips. I hope this thread will encourage more folks to head out and explore, using their Tundras or any other off road toys!

Please feel free to post pictures, gps coordinates, .gpx files, and a little trip report. Remember when off-roading please be prepared and carry tools/recovery gear/full size spare, and always remember to respect the trails and always pack everything out!

@BlueBottle not sure how it's rated. But this is from the Fun Treks book:
A challenging drive that passes through two historic gold mining towns: Poker Flat and Howland Flat. The trail can be used as a shortcut between Downieville and La Porte. Trip to Saddleback Mountain Lookout Tower has rewarding views. Green-sticker vehicles can stage on the La Porte side at the large warming hut. We enjoyed our stop in rustic Downieville.

@16tunterd lets do march 4 to poker flat? A lot of highway miles. But it's around 30 miles of dirt from the trailhead.
I'll get into specifics as we get a head dedicated head count.

Interested in joining for Poker Flat or really any other trails around Northern California. I have something scheduled for the evening on the 4th, so I'll keep an eye on this as specifics get posted.

    :sorry:
It was tough finding a 2013 Platinum in my area, I almost passed on mine, but thought, I'll be fine with 2 wheel drive, I'd only use 4 wheel drive once a decade in the snow. Kinda wish I had it sometimes though.
Although, if I did, I'd want a lift and bigger tires, etc. My 4x2 is saving me $.

Nope not yet. We've pushed it back due to conditions.
It's near the Oroville dam. So a lot of the roads are damaged and there is still a ton of snow built up from the storms.. Looks good in May-ish

    4/29/17:
    Alabama Hills - Movie Road
    Eastern Sierras - Lone Pine

So Me and the wife decided to take our 4 month baby girl out on a trip.. She loves the drives for sure, but the question was how will she do with bumpy dirt roads and camping?

Well safe to say that Alabama Hills was not much of an "off-road" trail. Dirt road yes. 4x4 needed no. Definitely has some great views of the snow capped Sierras!! Weather was great. A little windy but with the sun out it was a nice cool breeze to have.

We left San Jose around 4am, arrived to the trail head at 11:30 ish, drove around enjoying the views taking a few pictures, and then decided to setup camp for the day. We had no intentions of staying the night because weather report said temps would be at low 40's- high 30's that nigh with some high winds. It just wasn't ideal for baby girl. Any way, went off the intended route to get a nice remote spot to setup. Deployed the RTT(no annex), setup up our mattress cover+blankets, threw the wife/kiddo and her baby gear+snacks all up in there.

The Tepui RTT was LEGIT!!! I need to get some leveling planks or some new traction pads to level the truck out better. We were slightly leaning to one side. I'm sure after a few trips and Q's to the guys who already deal with it, I'll be able to get it down. We took a good nap after feeding baby girl woke up at 6pm, closed the tent up(which was super fun btw...) then made our way out. Finishing the original trail catching a little bit of speed on the empty dirt road. After we made our way into Bishop had some Holy Smoke Texas BBQ, and also stop by Mahogany Smoked meats and picked up some buffalo/beef/turkey/fish jerky!! On the way home I planned to stop by Copper Mountain trail, or Kavanaugh Ridge, but up towards Mono Lake, there was a lot more snow. So we definitely saved that for next time.

If you are looking for challenges this isn't the trail for you.. If you are just looking for some plain and simple remote camping with Amazing views definitely consider this run. Very family/baby friendly spot, a ton of other trails within or around the area to enjoy as well.

Here is a edit made with GoPro Quik app with the very few photos and clips I took.

Yes it is. I think they just opened up 108/120 yesterday.. That would've probably cut maybe 1 hour ish..?
But it was also a drive I wouldn't mind doing again. We will come back when it warms up a bit more and camp out on Mazourka Canyon where I can get some fishing in. Wife wants to go back and do the tour of the Manzanar Japanese interment camp.

 Damn can't imagine driving that trail at night. And next time, let me know if you're turning on the GoPro. I'll stick a little closer... even if I hate to eat more dust. :)

Has anyone run Corral Hollow? Location wise, it might be a good comprise for a lot NorCal members. I haven't called to check on trail conditions, but I watched a video from last year of a Ram 2500 doing it, so it barring any recent damage it should be doable for Tundras.
